Though the Met Gala\u2019s star-studded guest list is most heavily slanted toward Hollywood celebrities (and increasingly some Silicon Valley tycoons), the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is no stranger to the likes of British royals and aristocrats<\/a>. Lady Emma Thynn, Marchioness of Bath, made her Met Gala debut on Monday, looking positively regal in a structured floral ballgown with diamond drop earrings and a statement necklace.<\/p>\n

Lady Emma is already a fashion icon across the pond thanks to brand ambassadorships with Chopard and Fiorucci and having served as a fashion editor for British Vogue. The Marchioness of Bath has now gained legions of fans on this side of the Atlantic as of late after joining the cast of Bravo\u2019s reboot of the reality series, Ladies of London. (Although Lady Emma is no stranger to the small screen, having already appeared on Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Masterchef in the UK.)<\/p>\n

The Marchioness has been in New York City over the last week to promote the show\u2019s season final, appearing with co-star Lady Martha Sitwell on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen<\/a> as well as attending The King\u2019s Trust reception and gala at Christie\u2019s last week<\/a> while King Charles and Queen Camilla were on a state visit to the United States<\/a>. Lady Emma was also spotted stepping out with Venus and Serena Williams in Manhattan over the weekend for Colman Domingo\u2019s pre-Met Gala party.<\/a> She also walked the Met Gala arrivals carpet with Serena<\/a> on Monday night as well.<\/p>\n

Born in London to an interior designer and a Nigerian oil billionaire, Lady Emma made history in 2020 as Britain\u2019s first Black marchioness<\/a>. After marrying Ceawlin Thynn, now the eighth Marquess of Bath, she was previously styled as the Viscountess Weymouth from 2013 to 2020 until her father-in-law\u2019s death. The couple have two sons: John, 11, and Henry, 9. She has since become the chatelaine, the French term for the keeper of the castle, of Longleat<\/a>, the storied Elizabethan-style estate and safari park in Wiltshire, England that has operated since 1966 and holds the distinction of being the first safari park to open outside of Africa.<\/p>\n

Originally constructed as a Augustinian priory before becoming the seat of the Marquesses of Bath in the 16th century, Longleat was also featured in an episode of Ladies of London: The New Reign<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m always rushing around, lugging boxes hither and thither, and if people recognize me, they often give me feedback,\u201d Lady Emma told Harper\u2019s Bazaar UK<\/a> in 2023 about running the property, adding what an \u201camazing joy\u201d it has been for her. \u201cI never get used to it; it\u2019s not like it wears off. But Longleat doesn\u2019t feel like it\u2019s mine\u2014it feels like it belongs to everyone.”<\/p>\n
