{"id":29019,"date":"2026-05-05T11:55:32","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T11:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/29019\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T11:55:32","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T11:55:32","slug":"tate-britain-starts-work-on-new-clore-garden-to-open-in-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/29019\/","title":{"rendered":"Tate Britain starts work on new Clore Garden to open in 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tate Britain has started developing its Clore Garden, a new <a href=\"https:\/\/blooloop.com\/sustainability-trends-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">urban green space<\/a> for London set to open in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/blooloop.com\/museum\/news\/tate-britain-submits-plans-new-gardens\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clore Garden<\/a> is realised in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and designed by award-winning landscape architect Tom Stuart-Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Sadiq Khan, London&#8217;s mayor, said the new garden will be a space where &#8220;people can reconnect with nature and wildlife will be able to thrive&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p class=\"shortcode-media shortcode-media-rebelmouse-image\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"03f7c\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"9997d17521d2e351de6fc8c5535cb197\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg' viewBox='0 0 2000 1125'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/clore-garden-tate-britain.jpg\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1125\" alt=\"clore garden tate britain\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Investment in green spaces like this is vital as we work to tackle the climate crisis and build a better, greener London for everyone,&#8221; Khan added.<\/p>\n<p>Blakedown Landscapes, the project\u2019s main contractor, has started the process of initial site clearing works and excavation after planning permission was granted by Westminster Council. <\/p>\n<p>As the year continues, works for a new <a href=\"https:\/\/blooloop.com\/animals\/in-depth\/zaa-for-wildlife-and-people\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wildlife<\/a> pond and water feature at Tate Britain will begin, and reclaimed York stone paving from the site will be re-laid to create accessible winding pathways around curved flower beds.<\/p>\n<p>Sculptures from <a href=\"https:\/\/blooloop.com\/museum\/in-depth\/most-visited-museums-europe\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tate<\/a>\u2019s collection by modern and contemporary British artists, which will be announced later this year, will be installed shortly before the Clore Garden opens next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"shortcode-media shortcode-media-rebelmouse-image\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"3390e\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"1aa895139c33dc54048f5de7a2cc23c2\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg' viewBox='0 0 2000 1125'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1777982132_499_clore-garden-tate-britain.jpg\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1125\" alt=\"clore garden tate britain\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Planting will begin later this year and has been chosen by Stuart-Smith in consultation with the RHS.
