Winchester boasts a thriving independent scene with nearly 200 independent shops, caf\u00e9s and services operating throughout the city centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Business Improvement District (BID) area showcases this diverse community through the dedicated #IndieWinch campaign, which charts these local businesses. Key hotspots for independent shopping include Parchment Street, Jewry Street, The Square, and the High Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Well-loved and long-established independent retailers include P &amp; G Wells bookshop, Burrells Jewellers, The Old Fashioned Sweetie Shop, and Warren &amp; Son stationers. Meanwhile, data from Voices of Retail found that over half of Brits wanted fewer vape shops, bookmakers, tanning salons, and chain stores lining their local streets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Charlotte Broadbent, UK general manager at Faire, said that for most people, their local high street is &#8220;still the heart of their community&#8221;, and what surprised them most is &#8220;just how strong that demand remains&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">She said: &#8220;Over the last 20 years, retailers have faced constant challenges, from the rise of online shopping to investment shifting towards out-of-town retail parks.
