{"id":30031,"date":"2026-05-06T13:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T13:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/30031\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T13:30:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T13:30:00","slug":"byd-now-the-uks-best-selling-ev-brand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/30031\/","title":{"rendered":"BYD now the UK&#8217;s best-selling EV brand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\tBYD has become the UK\u2019s top-selling electric vehicle brand in 2026, selling 12,754 cars since the start of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\nDespite entering the UK market as recently as early 2023, these sales figures mean that <a href=\"https:\/\/evpowered.co.uk\/features\/exploring-the-stratospheric-rise-of-the-chinese-ev-industry\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the relatively new Chinese automotive giant<\/a>\u00a0has outsold more established brands, including Tesla, Kia, BMW and Volkswagen, since the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Combined with its plug-in DM-i (Dual Mode Intelligent) hybrid sales, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byd.com\/uk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BYD<\/a> has sold a total of 26,396 vehicles, resulting in a 9.5% market share.<\/p>\n<p>The DM-i models are the Sealion 5, \u00a0Seal U, Seal 6, and Seal 6 Touring. Meanwhile, the electric-only range comprises the Atto 2, <a href=\"https:\/\/evpowered.co.uk\/news\/byd-atto-3-evo-price-spec-revealed-uk-launch\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Atto 3 Evo<\/a>, Dolphin Surf, Dolphin, <a href=\"https:\/\/evpowered.co.uk\/features\/used-byd-seal-buying-guide-price-specifications-faults\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seal<\/a>, and Sealion 7.<\/p>\n<p>BYD has also become the best-selling EV brand amongst private buyers despite not qualifying for the UK Government\u2019s Electric Car Grant (ECG) scheme. However, as the UK\u2019s EV market grows by 22% year-on-year, the <a href=\"https:\/\/evpowered.co.uk\/news\/renault-5-one-pedal-driving-uk-best-selling-ev\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Renault 5 led the registrations chart<\/a> as the most popular EV choice nationwide.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25654\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Used-BYD-Seal-review-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"BYD is a best-seller in the UK\" width=\"850\" height=\"567\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>As well as plans to roll out <a href=\"https:\/\/evpowered.co.uk\/news\/byd-confirms-1500kw-flash-charging-network-will-arrive-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a network of 1,000kW \u2018Flash\u2019 chargers across the UK<\/a> later this year, BYD is developing home and utility-scale battery storage solutions not dissimilar to the Tesla Powerwall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt BYD, we are committed to delivering outstanding value through high-tech electric vehicles that combine innovation, quality and affordability,\u201d commented BYD UK country manager, Bono Ge. \u201cBut our ambition goes beyond building great cars.
