{"id":30604,"date":"2026-05-07T09:17:55","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T09:17:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/30604\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T09:17:55","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T09:17:55","slug":"traffic-drivers-face-chaos-as-police-led-incident-closes-crucial-road-until-at-least-late-afternoon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/30604\/","title":{"rendered":"Traffic: Drivers face chaos as &#8216;police-led incident&#8217; closes crucial road &#8216;until at least late afternoon&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Motorists are facing long delays on the road this morning in the East of England following a serious accident and ongoing police investigations.<\/p>\n<p>The A14 in Suffolk is closed in both directions between J43 (Bury St Edmunds) and J44 (Moreton) due to a Suffolk Police-led incident.<\/p>\n<p>National Highways stated that Suffolk Police were conducting investigations into the collision and its aftermath.<\/p>\n<p>It noted that the westbound carriageway can be reopened once police incident screens are in place on the eastbound carriageway.<\/p>\n<p>The transport organisation stated that the westbound carriageway is expected to open to traffic again soon.<\/p>\n<p>However, the eastbound carriageway will remain closed &#8220;until at least late afternoon&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Road maps from National Highways suggest that normal traffic conditions will not return until around 11.30am.<\/p>\n<p>Given the police investigations, this estimate could change over the coming hours, although National Highways has introduced a diversion route for motorists.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"d2a74\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"75fff5e67a89db1bf4de1195ee65a2ca\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201200%20800'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/u200ba-police-led-incident-has-prompted-the-closure-of-the-a14-this-morning.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" alt=\"\\u200bA police-led incident has prompted the closure of the A14 this morning\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A police-led incident has prompted the closure of the A14 this morning <\/p>\n<p> | <\/p>\n<p>NATIONAL HIGHWAYS<\/p>\n<p>Traffic cameras from the area show large stretches of the A14 completely shut off, with no cars on either carriageway.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the main roads surrounding Bury St Edmunds to the north and east have very slow-moving traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Around half of the A14 between J45 and J46 shows stationary traffic, while the road between J43 and J44 remains closed.<\/p>\n<p>National Highways is urging motorists impacted by the police-led incident to follow the signposted diversion route.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Suffolk Police said: &#8220;We were called at 2.26am.
