{"id":30833,"date":"2026-05-07T13:48:49","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T13:48:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/30833\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T13:48:49","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T13:48:49","slug":"major-train-disruption-to-and-from-london-expected-to-last-all-day-news-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/30833\/","title":{"rendered":"Major train disruption to and from London expected to last all day | News UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/SEI_296131054-6e2d.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28272665\" alt=\"Large queues of travellers at London Waterloo Station\" decoding=\"sync\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tCommuters in Waterloo wait for information after a fault on a communication system (Picture: Alex Lentati\/LNP)<\/p>\n<p>A <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/radio\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">radio<\/a> system is wreaking havoc on train services across southern <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/england\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">England<\/a> this morning, with passengers warned of severe disruption.<\/p>\n<p>Seven train companies have been affected: CrossCountry, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/gatwick-airport\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gatwick<\/a> Express, Great Western Railway, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/london\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">London<\/a> Overground, Southern, South Western Railway and Thameslink.<\/p>\n<p>The fault has been placed in a radio system, used so that the driver and signaller can communicate.<\/p>\n<p>The issue has now been resolved, National Rail said, but disruptions will last until the end of the day, with some services delayed by up to 90 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>A <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/network-rail\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">National Rail<\/a> spokesperson said: \u2018Some services may be delayed by up to 90 minutes or cancelled as a result. early (Picture: Getty)<\/p>\n<p>Great Western Railway customers can use their tickets on CrossCountry or South Western Railway through any reasonable route.<\/p>\n<p>As for Gatwick Express, Southern and Thameslink customers, delays and cancellations are expected to persist.<\/p>\n<p>Those travelling to Gatwick Airport have been urged to leave early and provide extra time to ensure they arrive before their flights.<\/p>\n<p>Customers on these services can travel on the following services at no additional cost:<\/p>\n<p>Alternative Southern services between London Victoria, Worthing and Gatwick Airport<\/p>\n<p>Alternative Thameslink services between Brighton and London via Gatwick Airport<\/p>\n<p>South Western Railway services between London Waterloo and Southampton \/ Portsmouth<\/p>\n<p>London Underground via any reasonable route.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stagecoachbus.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stagecoach<\/a>\u00a0route 9 between
