A Mecca Bingo venue in Devon is at risk of closing next month as it is not “commercially viable”.<\/p>\n

The bingo hall on North Street in Exeter<\/a> is coming to the end of the lease and requires “significant maintenance” making it harder to sustain operations.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Mecca told DevonLive the decision to close the venue is “difficult” but “we are working hard to ensure we have a sustainable estate of vibrant community clubs”.<\/p>\n

The Mecca venue in Taunton in Somerset is also at risk, the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n

Mecca is currently consulting with members of staff affected by the proposed closure and a final decision about the future of the venues is expected to be made in early June.<\/p>\n

In a statement, a spokesperson for Mecca Bingo said: “The proposed closures relate to venues that have not been commercially viable for some time.<\/p>\n

“Our leases on both Exeter and Taunton are reaching an end and both venues require significant maintenance, which makes it challenging for them to remain open.<\/p>\n

“These are difficult decisions, but we are working hard to ensure we have a sustainable estate of vibrant community clubs.<\/p>\n
