As you can see we are scoring stunning percentages in traditional old Labour areas,” he said.

But Starmer’s party has held on to some key London boroughs so far, including Merton and Hammersmith, though it lost Wandsworth and Westminster in tightly-fought battles with the Tories.

More than 5,000 council seats are up for grabs, including every single council seat in London. Previously dominant in the capital, Labour could lose a raft of London boroughs as it faces bitter challenges from Reform UK on its right flank and the Green Party on its left.

Local elections 2026: Reform take control of Havering council amid wins across UK

Zack Polanski’s resurgent Greens are targeting inner-city areas like Lewisham, Lambeth and Hackney – as well as Starmer’s backyard in Camden.

Nigel Farage’s Reform, on the other hand, are hopeful they can take outer boroughs like Hillingdon, Bromley and Bexley.

Starmer’s party are defending 2,557 seats at this set of elections and some pundits have suggested they could lose up to 1,800. This would be a stunning wipeout which would send Labour reeling and put the Prime Minister in perhaps his weakest position yet.

The City is bracing for market backlash from the elections and a potential Labour leadership challenge.

Get yourself up to date with our election preview and profiles of the state of play in every single London borough.

We’ll bring you every London result as it comes in, plus key market and political reaction, so stay tuned.

What to look out for in London’s local elections

The liveblog has ended.

No liveblog updates yet.

  Similarly tagged content:

   Sections

   Categories

   People & Organisations

Friday 08 May 2026 5:30 am | Updated: Friday 08 May 2026 8:46 am Prime Minister Keir Starmer said…

[26
13623,4204,633,1478,3724,13624,243,9181,4500,23,7915,1745,5685,1971,8167,6626,13625,6132,94,5594,9200,31,5721,6433,155,9201,9187,4347,27,9177,160,9209,12238,9210,13626,18,14,9215,9212,13627,3881,8437,9207,1734,4230,13628
post-31381","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-london","tag-bexley-and-bromley","tag-bromley","tag-business","tag-camden","tag-conservative-party","tag-conservatives-green-party-labour-lib-dems-liberal-democrats-local-elections-reform-uk-tories-uk-government","tag-croydon","tag-ealing","tag-enfield","tag-green-party","tag-greenwich","tag-hackney","tag-hammersmith-fulham","tag-haringey","tag-harrow","tag-hillingdon","tag-hounslow-council","tag-islington","tag-keir-starmer","tag-kensington-and-chelsea","tag-kingston-upon-thames","tag-labour-party","tag-lambeth","tag-lewisham","tag-lewisham-council","tag-liberal-democats","tag-local-election-results","tag-local-elections","tag-london","tag-london-boroughs","tag-markets","tag-merton","tag-merton-council","tag-newham","tag-newham-council","tag-news","tag-politics","tag-richmond-upon-thames-council","tag-southwark","tag-southwark-council","tag-sutton","tag-tower-hamlets","tag-waltham-forest-council","tag-wandsworth-council","tag-westminster","tag-westminster-city-council
["GET
