There are 37 single-member and 32 two-member wards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">One seat was up for election in the wards of Allens Cross, Balsall Heath West, Birchfield, Bordesley &amp; Highgate, Bordesley Green, Castle Vale, Druids Heath &amp; Monyhull, Frankley Great Park, Garretts Green, Gravelly Hill, Handsworth, Heartlands, Hall Green South, Highter&#8217;s Heath, Holyhead, King&#8217;s Norton North, King&#8217;s Norton South, Lozells, Nechells, Newtown, Northfield, Perry Common, Pype Hayes, Rubery &amp; Rednal, Sutton Four Oaks, Shard End, Sutton Mere Green, South Yardley, Sutton Reddicap, Sutton Roughley, Stirchley, Sutton Trinity, Sutton Wylde Green, Tyseley &amp; Hay Mills, Ward End and Yardley East.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a aria-label=\"Click hereLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=b8052254-66af-41f3-9dae-7bbb0e3391c6&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">Click here<\/a> to get the biggest stories straight to your inbox in our Daily Newsletter<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Two seats were up for grabs in the wards of Acocks Green, Alum Rock, Aston, Bartley Green, Bromford &amp; Hodge Hill, Billesley, Brandwood &amp; King&#8217;s Heath, Bournville &amp; Cotteridge, Bournbrook &amp; Selly Park, Edgbaston, Erdington, Glebe Farm &amp; Tile Cross, Harborne, Handsworth Wood, Hall Green North, Kingstanding, Ladywood, Longbridge &amp; West Heath, Moseley, North Edgbaston, Oscott, Perry Barr, Quinton, Sparkbrook &amp; Balsall Heath East, Sheldon, Soho &amp; Jewellery Quarter, Small Heath, Sparkhill, Stockland Green, Sutton Vesey, Sutton Walmley &amp; Minworth and Weoley &amp; Selly Oak.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Elections in Birmingham take place every four years, with all of the councillors elected each time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Birmingham City Council is a metropolitan borough council responsible for services like rubbish collection, recycling, Council Tax collections, housing and planning applications.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Ahead of the election, the council was run by the <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/labour-party\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Labour<\/a> Party with 49 seats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Polls closed at 10pm on Thursday, May 7, with the count taking place on Friday. Results for Birmingham local elections are due from 6pm on Friday, May 8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In total, more than 5,000 council seats were up for grabs across 136 local authorities in England on election day.
