A Plymouth man who was pulling wheelies on a motorbike before hitting a war veteran has been jailed.<\/p>\n

Jordan Goody, 26, of Higher Efford Road, was sentenced after being found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.<\/p>\n

Plymouth Crown Court heard police were called to the scene of a crash on Monday, February 5, 2024, after a KTM motorbike hit a pedestrian in the city, and the rider fled the scene.<\/p>\n

At the time of the crash, Goody was uninsured, had no licence or number plate, and left the scene “with no regard for human life”.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to Beacon Park Road, and a local 80-year-old war veteran, Dilwyn Durham, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n

Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, Mr Durham died as a result of his injuries three days later.<\/p>\n

An investigation into the crash was launched, and Jordan Goody was identified as the rider and subsequently arrested, police said.<\/p>\n

Several eyewitnesses described how Goody had been “pulling wheelies and overtaking cars” moments before the crash.<\/p>\n

Goody was identified, and the motorcycle was recovered from where it had been hidden. He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.<\/p>\n

Goody denied the offences but was found guilty by a jury on April 10, 2026.<\/p>\n

He was sentenced to six years in prison and has been handed a driving ban of six years, extended to nine years with an extended driving test requirement, to begin on release from prison.<\/p>\n

Lead investigator Detective Sergeant Sam Pullen, of the Force\u2019s Serious Collisions Investigation Unit, said: \u201cWhile we welcome the sentence Goody has been served, no sentence will ever make up for his mindless actions on that day.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot only was Goody riding an off-road bike, but it also wasn\u2019t insured or licenced and had no number plate.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe left the scene of the collision with no regard for human life as Mr Durham lay dying on the road.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr Durham was a much-loved local man who had also served in the war. He was walking to the local social club that day unaware that this would be his last outing.<\/p>\n

\u201cGoody\u2019s decision to drive in an incredibly dangerous manner saw one man lose his life and left his family and friends heartbroken.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to thank the members of the public who did remain at the scene, who I know carry their own pain from witnessing the aftermath of that collision. I would also like to thank the community who came forward following appeals for information \u2013 your help was invaluable in securing today\u2019s outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n
