This year Zineb Sedira will be filling the 90-metre-long space with work that explores personal and cultural history and Pan-African life (13 May–17 January 2027). Sedira was born in Paris to Algerian parents and moved to London in 1980; much of her art addresses themes of displacement, migration and identity, often drawing on family archives and film history. Dreams Have No Titles, which was inspired by political cinema and her family’s immigrant history, was a hit at the French Pavilion at the 2022 Venice Biennale and travelled to the Whitechapel Gallery in London two years later. Anyone who admired that installation, with its bravura use of space and its interest in the transportive potential of music and moving images, ought to visit the neoclassical Duveen Galleries to see how she has transformed them.

Find out more from the Tate’s website.
Preview below | View Apollo’s Art Diary

Installation view of Standing Here Wondering Which Way to Go (2019), Zineb Sedira, at the Jeu de Paume, Paris.
