However, the outcome fell short of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/politics\/nigel-farage-reform-win-general-election-b1281509.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nigel Farage<\/a>\u2019s recent claim that his party had a &#8220;real chance&#8221; of winning Bexley. <\/p>\n<p>While the vote count was often a tightly contested race between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/reform\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reform<\/a> and the Conservatives, the Tories ultimately triumphed in most wards, limiting Reform\u2019s overall gains.<\/p>\n<p>The final result of the council was delayed after a recount was ordered for the two-seat ward,  Slade Green and Northend, where votes were too close to call between Labour and Reform.<\/p>\n<p>Labour eventually won the seats, giving them nine councillors overall. Labour in Bexley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/politics\/prime-minister-ealing-john-mcdonnell-andy-burnham-anas-sarwar-b1281529.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">mirrored a nationwide trend<\/a>, experiencing a reduction in their councillor numbers from the 2022 election &#8211; down from 12.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2273577100.jpg\" width=\"6720\" height=\"4480\" alt=\"&lt;p&gt;Conservative Leader Kemi Badenoch (C) with Bexley Conservative Councillor David Leaf (R) and Conservative MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup Louie French (L) during a campaign visit on 2 May&lt;\/p&gt;\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"sc-eqUAAy kgsspP\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch (C) with Bexley Conservative councillor David Leaf (R) and Conservative MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup Louie French (L) during a campaign visit on 2 May<\/p>\n<p>Getty<\/p>\n<p>Following his party&#8217;s victory, Conservative leader David Leaf declared it was &#8220;business as usual&#8221; in Bexley, promising to be back in his office later on Friday to begin implementing the promises made in their manifesto.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Leaf said the win was \u201creally emotional and moving\u201d and he felt it was a privilege to once again serve the residents of Bexley.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cWe are obviously delighted that our residents have put their trust back in us again. It is bittersweet if I\u2019m honest because some good, hardworking councillors lost their seats sadly. But we are pleased the residents put their trust in us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey looked over the border and saw the chaos, broken promises, deceit and lies that Reform offer in local government in Kent and they didn\u2019t want it here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked how he felt about Reform now having a presence on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/bexley-council\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bexley Council<\/a>, Cllr Leaf said: \u201cWe get on with the job of representing our residents. They\u2019re there to serve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/nigel-farage\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nigel Farage<\/a>\u2019s ego.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike with anyone, we have to wait and see what they do on the council, but based on what they\u2019ve been doing with their campaign, I don\u2019t think they\u2019ve got much to offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here are the full results in Bexley<\/p>\n<p>Bexley (Total number of seats: 45)<\/p>\n<p>Winner: Conservatives (hold)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Tories secured 29 of the 45 available seats, losing only one in the process.
