Keep calm and carry on, says UK (for now) \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Starmer&#8217;s message was in stark contrast to European Energy Commissioner, Dan J\u00f8rgensen, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/europeans-urged-to-work-from-home-and-drive-less-as-eu-warns-of-long-crisis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">warned on Tuesday<\/a> that Europe faced \u201ca very serious situation\u201d with no return to normal in the \u201cforeseeable future.\u201d He urged EU citizens to follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/news\/new-iea-report-highlights-options-to-ease-oil-price-pressures-on-consumers-in-response-to-middle-east-supply-disruptions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">advice issued last month<\/a> by the International Energy Agency, which included working from home where possible, reducing driving speeds, car sharing and more use of public transport.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday used a rare <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AlboMP\/status\/2039253117385232580\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">address to the nation<\/a>, urging those who can to use public transport rather than driving to work. Albanese warned that \u201cthe months ahead may not be easy.\u201d Australia is heavily dependent on fuel imports from the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>The more sanguine approach adopted by the U.K. reflects internal government assessments that, despite the disruption to global oil and gas shipped via the Strait of Hormuz, the supply situation for the U.K. does not yet merit behavior changes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no immediate concern about supply,\u201d said a government official, granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on record. \u201cThis isn&#8217;t like COVID \u2014 supply is different in every country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The U.K. is a net importer of oil, but is self-sufficient and a <a href=\"https:\/\/post.parliament.uk\/north-sea-oil-and-gas\/#heading-6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">net exporter<\/a> for one important fuel, gasoline.
