The SNP have maintained control of the Scottish parliament, and Plaid Cymru\u2019s progressive social democratic vision for Wales has shattered Labour\u2019s offer. Unlike the English council results, these will have a direct impact on economic policies for some UK citizens, and both should have a positive impact. Before the election<a href=\"https:\/\/taxjustice.uk\/blog\/who-will-bring-tax-justice-to-wales-assessing-the-2026-assembly-manifestos\/?link_id=3&amp;can_id=7722bed1e97f37347b8bdd5741f3e2eb&amp;source=email-a-revolt-against-politics-as-usual&amp;email_referrer=&amp;email_subject=todays-results-a-revolt-against-politics-as-usual&amp;&amp;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0we ranked Plaid Cymru\u2019s manifesto as the second strongest<\/a>\u00a0in terms of delivering on Tax Justice priorities, with a score of 9\/18. And\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/taxjustice.uk\/blog\/who-will-bring-tax-justice-to-scotland-assessing-the-2026-holyrood-manifestos\/?link_id=4&amp;can_id=7722bed1e97f37347b8bdd5741f3e2eb&amp;source=email-a-revolt-against-politics-as-usual&amp;email_referrer=&amp;email_subject=todays-results-a-revolt-against-politics-as-usual&amp;&amp;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the SNP promise to deliver a Private Jet Tax, and a Mansion Tax<\/a>, that will represent serious victories for our movement to tax wealth fairly.<\/p>\n<p>In England, Reform has made large gains at the expense of both the Conservatives, and Labour. The Green Party and the Liberal Democrats have also prised serious numbers of council seats as well as crucial mayoralties away from Labour.\u00a0We know trust in politicians is at an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/natcen.ac.uk\/news\/trust-and-confidence-britains-system-government-record-low?link_id=5&amp;can_id=7722bed1e97f37347b8bdd5741f3e2eb&amp;source=email-a-revolt-against-politics-as-usual&amp;email_referrer=&amp;email_subject=todays-results-a-revolt-against-politics-as-usual&amp;&amp;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">all time low<\/a>, and although the turnout has not been officially released yet, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/local-elections-could-see-council-seats-won-on-record-low-vote-shares-13538561?link_id=6&amp;can_id=7722bed1e97f37347b8bdd5741f3e2eb&amp;source=email-a-revolt-against-politics-as-usual&amp;email_referrer=&amp;email_subject=todays-results-a-revolt-against-politics-as-usual&amp;&amp;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prediction is it will be historically low<\/a>, with millions clearly disillusioned with what\u2019s on offer. This would continue the downward trend of political participation that we saw in the 2024 General Election, the second lowest turnout in a General Election since records began in 1885.<\/p>\n<p>Whether today leaves you hopeful, scared, frustrated, or despondent it\u2019s obvious we are living in a moment of great upheaval.
