We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p>Your support makes all the difference.Read more<\/p>\n<p>The Conservative Party has outlined a series of ambitious proposals in its \u201calternative King&#8217;s Speech\u201d, including withdrawing from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/european-convention-on-human-rights\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">European Convention on Human Rights<\/a> (ECHR), tripling stop-and-search powers, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/politics\/kemi-badenoch-north-sea-drilling-iran-oil-b2947669.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">resuming new North Sea drilling. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The package, released ahead of the Labour government\u2019s official priorities, aims to \u201creverse the disastrous decisions Keir Starmer has taken\u201d while also seeking to \u201crectify the mistakes of previous Conservative governments\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/kemi-badenoch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kemi Badenoch<\/a> stated the document<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/home-news\/labour-keir-starmer-reform-uk-tories-hayward-b2971509.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> demonstrates that her \u201crenewed\u201d Conservative Party,<\/a> which she has pledged to rebuild after its significant 2024 general election defeat, \u201cis coming back with a plan to deliver\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The 16 bills, spanning welfare, immigration, crime, energy, and defence, are the culmination of 18 months of policy work since the party lost power.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Badenoch has previously apologised for \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/politics\/politics-explained\/kemi-badenoch-keir-starmer-zack-polanski-b2970707.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">mistakes\u201d made by past Tory administrations on tax and immigration<\/a>, particularly the surge in migration under more relaxed post-Brexit rules introduced by Boris Johnson\u2019s government. <\/p>\n<p>To address this, the party\u2019s proposals include legislation to repeal the Human Rights Act and authorise withdrawal from the ECHR, which it blames for hindering the deportation of individuals without a right to remain in the UK.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2272272147.jpg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Resuming new drilling in the North Sea is among the plans included in the Conservatives\u2019 \u2018alternative King\u2019s Speech\u2019\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE inline-gallery-btn\"\/>Resuming new drilling in the North Sea is among the plans included in the Conservatives\u2019 \u2018alternative King\u2019s Speech\u2019 (AFP\/Getty)<\/p>\n<p>Shadow home secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/chris-philp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Philp<\/a> said: \u201cMembership of the ECHR and the Blairite Human Rights Act has protected everyone except the British public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur borders have been eroded and policing undermined.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is essential for any future government to tackle the lawfare holding our country back if they are to succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Philp also said the proposed Take Back Our Streets Bill \u201ctriples stop-and-search, deploys 10,000 additional officers, and rolls out live facial recognition to the worst crime hotspots, restoring the damage Labour have done in just under two years\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Tories have also pledged to reduce legal obstacles which prevent new oil and gas projects being approved in the UK with their draft Get Britain Drilling Bill.<\/p>\n<p>They have argued this would bring down the spike in energy prices caused by the war in the Middle East, although opponents have said new licences would do nothing to lower bills.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/01KR9CGXMEZ2SC36XY5DVNQZAS.jpg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Kemi Badenoch has previously apologised for 'mistakes' made by the Tory administrations she served in on tax and immigration, including the surge in migration under more relaxed post-Brexit rules introduced by Boris Johnson\u2019s government\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE inline-gallery-btn\"\/>Kemi Badenoch has previously apologised for &#8216;mistakes&#8217;
