Emergency services arrived at the scene<\/a>, which was north of the junction for South Witham and Castle Bytham after 9.30pm last night.<\/p>\nDespite the best efforts of officers and paramedics a 52-year-old woman died at the scene. A large dog also died.<\/p>\n
Officers understand the woman, a man and their dog had left their Vauxhall Corsa parked in a layby north of the Fox Inn on the southbound lane of the A1 and had walked over to the northbound lane.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving has been released under investigation and the 58-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released without charge,\u201d a Lincolnshire Police statement said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur inquiries will continue in relation to the offence of causing death by careless driving. Following further information, we are satisfied that there are no further suspicious circumstances.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re grateful to the people who have got in touch with footage and information so far.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, police are still appeaeling for more help with their inquiries.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe earlier appealed for information following a serious collision on the A1 at South Witham which led to the very sad death of a woman and a dog,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can now narrow our witness appeal and ask anyone who was travelling both northbound or southbound on the A1 at South Witham between 9.15pm and 9.30pm on Saturday, May 9 and recalls seeing a man, woman and a dog walking in the area or the actual collision, or anyone who may have captured the pedestrians or the collision on dashcam to get in touch.\u201d<\/p>\n
