{"id":33925,"date":"2026-05-11T16:44:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T16:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/33925\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T16:44:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T16:44:10","slug":"paul-weller-madness-primal-screams-bobby-gillespie-sex-pistols-glen-matlock-and-loads-more-for-london-artists-for-gaza-fundraiser-gig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/33925\/","title":{"rendered":"Paul Weller, Madness, Primal Scream&#8217;s Bobby Gillespie, Sex Pistols&#8217; Glen Matlock and loads more for London Artists for Gaza fundraiser gig"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/paul-weller\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Weller<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/madness\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Madness<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/bobby-gillespie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bobby Gillespie<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/glen-matlock\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Glen Matlock<\/a> and many more are among those set to perform at London\u2019s Artists for Gaza fundraiser gig later this month \u2013 check out all the details below.<\/p>\n<p>This Sunday (May 17) at London\u2019s Scala, Artists for Gaza will once again raise funds for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthworkers4palestine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Health Workers 4 Palestine<\/a>\u2019s Gaza Medics Solidarity Fund \u2013 which aids in the rebuilding of maternity wards in Gaza, as well as funding mobile clinics and paying stipends to Gazan medics \u2013 you can donate and find tickets <a href=\"https:\/\/artistsforgaza.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/paul-weller-bobby-gillespie-and-paul-simonon-to-dj-at-gaza-fundraiser-in-london-3878287\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Artists for Gaza events raised over \u00a355,000 for UNICEF\u2019s Gaza appeal<\/a>, and helped provide life-saving aid, including food, medical care and shelter for people in Gaza subjected to a humanitarian crisis; with a UN commission inquiry concluding in September that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza, which Israel has denied (via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c8641wv0n4go\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">BBC News<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s edition will see Weller, Sex Pistols bassist Matlock, Madness members Suggs, Barso, Bedders, and Lee Thompson, Roxy Music saxophonist Andy Mackay, Kevin Rowland, and Clive Langer of Deaf School perform together live on stage.<\/p>\n<p>DJ sets will come from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/the-specials\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Specials<\/a> founder Jerry Dammers, Gilles Peterson, Simon Bartholomew, Aitch B of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/soul-ii-soul\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Soul II Soul<\/a>\u00a0, DJ Prime Cuts, David Holmes, The Beirut Collective, Jeremy Healey, Lascelles Gordon, and Primal Scream frontman Gillespie.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about this Sunday\u2019s event, Gillespie described Artists for Gaza founder Chris Sullivan as \u201can old friend who I respect very much\u201d, adding: \u201cWhen he told me what he was planning to do with the people being massacred in Gaza by the Israeli Occupation Forces I said I would love to be involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe it\u2019s the human rights issue of our time. A grave historical injustice has been done to the Palestinian people. Our government are complicit in the genocide prosecuted by Israel. I support the Palestinian people\u2019s struggle for equal rights and justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dexys Midnight Runners founder Rowland echoed those sentiments, saying: \u201cI want to play Artists for Gaza because it\u2019s my duty as a human being to do whatever I possibly can. Innocent people are being slaughtered and our government don\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further live sets will come from acid jazz band Galliano, Natty Bo and the Top Cats, the Errol Linton Band, and The Black Kat Boppers. There will also be a vintage vinyl room, with Eddie \u2018Acid Jazz\u2019 Pillar, Bob Jones, Snowboy, Dean Thatcher, Paul \u2018Smiler\u2019 Anderson, and a Northern Soul sets from Wigan Casino mainstays Amanda and Val, 6Ts all-nighter at the 100 Club founder Ady Croasdell, and Lewisham\u2019s the Heart of Soul Squad.<\/p>\n<p>A reggae room will feature veteran selectors including MC Kinky, Oxman, Dub Vendor, legendary music producer Howie B \u2013 best known for working with Bjork, Gaz \u2018Rockin Blues\u2019 Mayall, Keith Lawrence of Mi-Soul, Darren Bennet, and dancehall trailblazer Father Festus Coxsone.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3945003\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/live-bobby-gillespie.jpg\" alt=\"Artists For Gaza Concert\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1270\"  \/>Paul Simonon of The Clash and Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream DJing at \u2018Artists For Gaza\u2019 benefit, 2025. CREDIT: David Corio\/Redferns<\/p>\n<p>As well as providing a platform for the creative community to come together to raise vital funds, this month\u2019s Artists for Gaza event will be held in memory of Finbar Sullivan, the son of Chris Sullivan and Leah Seresin, who was killed in April this year.<\/p>\n<p>Finbar was profoundly moved by the suffering of children in Gaza, which promoted his father Chris to found Artists for Gaza. Press materials state that Finbar was heavily involved in Artists for Gaza from the start so it\u2019s felt like a \u201cfitting dedication\u201d to him.<\/p>\n<p>The gig won\u2019t be the first time that Gillespie and Weller have come together to raise awareness and funds for Palestine.
