London is blessed with a ridiculous number of\u00a0elite galleries and museums\u00a0that are entirely free to visit, and\u00a060 percent of locals\u00a0see\u00a0art and culture in\u00a0general here as\u00a0affordable. Brand new cutting edge museums like\u00a0The V&A East Museum<\/a>,\u00a0V&A East Storehouse<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Young V&A<\/a>\u00a0are all free to visit, as are a number of the cities much older cultural institutions, from the Natural History Museum\u00a0and the British Museum to the National Gallery and Tate Britain.\u00a0<\/p>\n Specific\u00a0exhibitions<\/a>\u00a0that London still has to look forward to this year include a major\u00a0show at the Tate Modern\u00a0dedicated to the life and work of Frida Kahlo<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0arrival of the Bayeux Tapestry<\/a>\u00a0in the UK for the first time in 900 years. Time Out named the latter the single greatest thing to experience in Britain this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n There are more than 250 museums in London, ranging from the beautiful to the downright\u00a0bizarre<\/a>.\u00a0And plenty more will be cropping up over the coming months \u2013 namely, the\u00a0Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration<\/a>\u00a0in Clerkenwell (which will be the world\u2019s largest museum of illustration), the\u00a0Museum of Youth Culture<\/a>\u00a0in Camden and the\u00a0London Museum<\/a>\u00a0in Smithfield. In 2027, we\u2019ll also be getting an ambitious new\u00a0Beatles museum<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n But culture isn\u2019t just artefacts and paintings. It\u2019s also\u00a0theatre<\/a>, for which London\u00a0scored 90 percent (the\u00a0strongest rating of all cities surveyed). The capital\u2019s theatrical epicentre, the West End, is home to around 40 venues hosting new and long-established plays featuring some of the biggest stars in the business. That\u2019s not to mention the more than 200 other theatres spread out across the rest of the city,\u00a0which nourish hundreds of\u00a0emerging actors and playwrights.\u00a0<\/p>\n The rest of your time in London might be spend at a free comedy night (where Britain\u2019s best-known comics honed their craft), at a\u00a0gig in a grassroots venue or shiny high-capacity arena<\/a>, at a\u00a0pumping day festival<\/a>\u00a0or at one of many major sporting fixtures that folk travel far and wide for.<\/p>\n Honestly, London\u2019s programme of cultural goings-on is too sprawling to cover all in one go.
