David Beckham and his wife Victoria’s wealth has surged by such a great extent that they are now worth more almost twice as much as King Charles<\/p>\n

Superstar David Beckham<\/a> has become Britain\u2019s first billionaire sportsman – after a doubling of his mega-wealth in the past year.<\/p>\n

The former England captain, along with wife Victoria, have amassed a near \u00a31.2billion fortune, according to the latest Sunday Times Rich List<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Their wealth has surged from \u00a3500million a year ago, and the pair are now worth nearly twice as much as King Charles III<\/a>, whose personal fortune is put at \u00a3680million, up \u00a340million in the past year thanks to a rise in the value of investments.<\/p>\n

Yet despite Golden Balls\u2019 array of sponsorship and endorsement deals, the main reason for his surging fortunes is from property and his stake in Major Soccer League club Inter Miami.<\/p>\n

Becks, who celebrated his 51st birthday earlier this month, is said to have invested \u00a316million in the venture, which officially launched as the MLS\u2019s 25th club in early 2018. Its roster of players include legend Lionel Messi<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But he has enjoyed a stellar return on his money, with authors of the Sunday Times Rich List<\/a> estimating his stake at \u00a3300million now. On top of that is property around Inter Miami\u2019s new 25,000 seater stadium.<\/p>\n

Called Freedom Park, it will include shops, hospitality, entertainment and offices. Beckham\u2019s stake in the complex has been put at \u00a3400million.<\/p>\n

Robert Watts, who is the compiler of the Sunday Times Rich List as the definitive guide to UK wealth, declared: \u201cI wouldn\u2019t want to play David Beckham at Monopoly.”<\/p>\n

The Beckhams have jumped from joint 273rd to 141st on this year\u2019s Sunday Times Rich List. Their fortune also includes a \u00a350million London home and a \u00a320million estate in the Cotswolds.<\/p>\n

The latest Sunday Times Rich List includes names from the world<\/a> of business, sport and entertainment. The report tracks the changing fortunes of the UK\u2019s 350 wealthiest individuals and families.<\/p>\n

Their combined wealth this year has risen by 1.4% to \u00a3784billion – a sum larger than the annual economy of Belgium, Sweden, and Israel<\/a>. There are now 157 UK billionaires, 20 fewer than four years ago. The minimum entry level dips to \u00a3340million.<\/p>\n

Among others famous names on the list are Noel and Liam Gallagher<\/a>, with the Oasis<\/a> brothers sitting on a \u00a3375million pile. Their combined wealth – which puts them in 325rd place – was turbo-charged by the Definitely Maybe star\u2019s 41 shows between July and November last year.<\/p>\n

The hugely anticipated reunion tour took almost \u00a3400million at the box office and provided the perfect warm-up act for a sale of the group\u2019s song rights.<\/p>\n

Remaining in the world of music, and Glastonbury<\/a>\u2019s Emily Eavis features on the list for the first time, in 314th place. Her father, Sir Michael, first hosted his first music festival at Worthy Farm in 1970.<\/p>\n

Now the business is partly owned by family trusts and experts have suggested that the Glastonbury festival could be worth at least \u00a3400million.<\/p>\n

The research also includes a young list, with 37-year-old heavy weight boxer Tyson Fury<\/a> having a \u00a3162million fortune, above singer Dua Lipa\u2019s \u00a3150millon, but less than former One Direction<\/a> Harry Styles<\/a>\u2019 estimated \u00a3235million.<\/p>\n

Others on the fuller list are Sir Elton John<\/a>, in 277th place and worth \u00a3480million, Lord Lloyd-Webber (260th, \u00a3516million), Harry Potter<\/a> author JK Rowling<\/a> (159th, \u00a3975million), and Rolling Stones<\/a> legends Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, in joint 284th place and worth \u00a3450million each.<\/p>\n

It came as separate research by the TUC <\/a>found the number of billionaires has doubled since 2010, while real wages for ordinary workers have stagnated.<\/p>\n

The average wealth of a Sunday Times Rich List member is over 7,600 times higher than an average UK household, it also discovered., and while there were only nine billionaires when the list began in 1989, there are now 157.<\/p>\n

TUC General Secretary Paul Nowak said: \u201cWe need an economy that rewards work \u2013 not just wealth.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder the Conservatives, the wealthiest were allowed to feather their nests while working people suffered an epidemic of insecure work and the worst pay stagnation in two centuries.<\/p>\n

“Clearly wealth has not trickled down \u2013 it has been hoarded by those at the top. This isn\u2019t right. With ordinary people struggling to pay the bills, it\u2019s time for billionaires to pay their fair share in tax to protect households and firms from the effects of Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s illegal war.
