{"id":37101,"date":"2026-05-15T11:03:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T11:03:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/37101\/"},"modified":"2026-05-15T11:03:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T11:03:13","slug":"uk-billionaire-count-falls-as-wealthy-leave-britain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/37101\/","title":{"rendered":"UK billionaire count falls as wealthy leave Britain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sunday Times Rich List reveals 157 UK billionaires \u2013 20 fewer than four years ago \u2013 as Sir David Beckham becomes Britain\u2019s first billionaire sportsman and the Gallagher brothers enter the list after the Oasis reunion<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Britain\u2019s billionaire count has fallen as wealthy individuals leave the UK for Dubai, Switzerland and Monaco, according to the latest\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/sunday-times-rich-list?eafs_enabled=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Sunday Times Rich List<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-29adf919\">The annual ranking puts the number of UK billionaires at 157 \u2013 20 fewer than four years ago \u2013 with the minimum fortune needed to enter the list falling to \u00a3340 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-1a4a6258\">Robert Watts, compiler of the list, described the results as a \u201ctale of two exoduses\u201d, with one-in-six families who appeared two years ago no longer featuring in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-51f5c76d\">He said: \u201cMany foreign billionaires who have been living in the UK have also dropped out because they have moved away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-00e12322\">\u201cWe have also seen a sharp rise in the number of British nationals now resident in Dubai, Switzerland and Monaco. As UK nationals these people remain on our Rich List \u2013 wherever they now live.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-a7394592\">The movement of ultra-wealthy residents comes after changes including the end of non-domiciled tax status, which had allowed some people living in the UK to avoid tax on income earned overseas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-f3d14d40\">Watts said the trend raised questions for the economy and the public finances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-1ae04d14\">He added: \u201cThese two exoduses pose challenges for the UK economy and its public finances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-af581799\">\u201cWill more of the wealthy now set up or grow their ventures overseas and in doing so create fewer jobs here? How much tax \u2013 if any \u2013 will Rachel Reeves\u2019 Treasury be able to extract from those affluent Brits who have now left the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-2a0de308\">Sanjay and Dheeraj Hinduja and family top this year\u2019s list with a fortune estimated at \u00a338 billion.\u00a0The family, which controls the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hinduja_Group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">India-based Hinduja Group<\/a>, also held the top spot last year under former family head Gopi Hinduja, who died in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-d49c1aa3\">David and Simon Reuben and family are second on \u00a327.97 billion, followed by Sir Leonard Blavatnik on \u00a326.85 billion, Idan Ofer on \u00a324.48 billion, and Guy, George, Alannah and Galen Weston and family on \u00a318.93 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-4318ce90\">The biggest rise in this year\u2019s ranking belongs to Nik Storonsky, the 41-year-old owner of fintech company\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.revolut.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Revolut<\/a>.\u00a0His wealth rose from \u00a36.97 billion to \u00a316.41 billion after a fundraising round valued the business at \u00a355.6 billion \u2013 a gain averaging almost \u00a326 million a day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-dd7b4915\">Alex Gerko, the Moscow-born mathematician who founded trading platform XTX, also climbed sharply, rising from \u00a38.74 billion to \u00a316 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-50cd6a8e\">There were also steep falls among some of Britain\u2019s best-known business figures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-417e71b8\">Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United and founder of petrochemicals group Ineos, saw his estimated fortune fall by nearly \u00a32 billion to \u00a315.19 billion.\u00a0Sir James Dyson\u2019s wealth was estimated at \u00a312 billion, down \u00a38 billion on last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-97e54e7b\">The list also brought major gains for entertainment and sport figures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-9880203d\">Sir David Beckham and Victoria Beckham are estimated to have doubled their wealth in the past year, making the former England captain Britain\u2019s first billionaire sportsman.\u00a0And\u00a0Liam and Noel Gallagher entered the list with an estimated \u00a3375 million fortune after the sell-out Oasis reunion concerts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-a08bb95b\">Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis also joined the ranking, with the festival now owned by a family trust and experts suggesting it could be worth \u00a3400 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-ae34ffe0\">Boxing and snooker promoters Eddie and Barry Hearn are also reported to have crossed the billionaire threshold.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-c2bfc0ba\">The King is estimated to be worth \u00a3680 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-59b8a8cc\">2026 Sunday Times Rich List\u00a0Top 10<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-fbdc708d\">Sanjay and Dheeraj Hinduja and family \u2013 \u00a338bn<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-9d7cbcb6\">David and Simon Reuben and family \u2013 \u00a327.97bn<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-67f9458f\">Sir Leonard Blavatnik \u2013 \u00a326.85bn<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-4b014e28\">Idan Ofer \u2013 \u00a324.48bn<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-e94a7863\">Guy, George, Alannah and Galen Weston and family \u2013 \u00a318.93bn<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-b8330141\">Christopher Harborne \u2013 \u00a318.17bn<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-46d5d44a\">Nik Storonsky \u2013 \u00a316.41bn<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-7fac50dd\">Alex Gerko \u2013 \u00a316bn<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-6a4ce154\">Sir Jim Ratcliffe \u2013 \u00a315.19bn<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-ff087a4e\">Igor and Dmitry Bukhman \u2013 \u00a314.26bn<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-c01bcb78\">The Sunday Times Rich List is based on identifiable wealth, including land, property, art, racehorses and shares in publicly quoted companies.
