An Essex duo have been named among the county’s richest people in the latest Sunday Times list – and they’re quite the household name. Eddie and Barry Hearn have become quite the iconic duo in the sporting industry and have now appeared on the 2026 Sunday Times Rich List<\/a>.<\/a><\/p>\n They placed sixth across East Anglia and second in Essex, with an estimated wealth of \u00a31.035bn. Eddie is a British sports promoter and the chairman of Matchroom Sport and Professional Darts Corporation.<\/p>\n Hearn has promoted many world champions through Matchroom, including Anthony Joshua, Canelo \u00c1lvarez, Gennady Golovkin, Vasyl Lomachenko, Katie Taylor, and others. He is the son of promoter Barry Hearn, the original founder of Matchroom Sport.<\/p>\n With the formation of Matchroom Sport in 1982, Hearn was able to turn his abilities to developing a stable of top snooker players and ultimately produce televised events. A long-term boxing fan, Barry moved into fight promotion in the late 1980s and has promoted hundreds of British, European and World title fights for television over the years.<\/p>\n Through the 1990s, Hearn turned a number of niche sports into major TV attractions with a succession of innovative ideas. His acquisition of a majority shareholding in the PDC in 2001 saw him appointed Chairman as the company went from strength to strength.<\/p>\n Into the second decade of the 21st century, Barry Hearn OBE has developed Matchroom Sport into one of the world\u2019s leading independent suppliers of quality sports programming, with his son Eddie playing a huge part in the company.<\/p>\n Eddie still lives in Essex today, in a huge mansion near Warley, Brentwood. Mascalls, a gorgeous stately home, is situated on Mascalls Lane near Brentwood, Essex, and like most other large homes in Essex, many may drive by and wonder who actually lives there and what events led to them owning such a grandiose property.<\/p>\n Since the 1980s, the mansion has been owned by the Hearn family, who have used it as a de-facto headquarters for their sporting empire: Matchroom Sport. The building has been dramatically renovated to accommodate the business needs of Matchroom Sports and includes a fully equipped gym, large pool and hallways decked with precious photos and boxing memorabilia.<\/p>\n Aside from his promotional company dealings, Eddie is also a best-selling author of non-fiction.
