{"id":37798,"date":"2026-05-16T07:07:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T07:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/37798\/"},"modified":"2026-05-16T07:07:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T07:07:11","slug":"hampshire-news-teacher-collapses-and-dies-in-front-of-horrified-pupils-sitting-their-gcses-at-winchester-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/37798\/","title":{"rendered":"Hampshire news: Teacher collapses and dies in front of horrified pupils sitting their GCSEs at Winchester school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A teacher at Kings&#8217; School in Winchester collapsed and died in front of pupils sitting their GCSE exams.<\/p>\n<p>The woman, who was in her 40s and a long-serving member of staff, suffered a medical emergency shortly after students arrived for the day.<\/p>\n<p>An air ambulance carrying a doctor and two advanced paramedics landed at the school at 8.58am on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Hampshire Police confirmed they were called by ambulance colleagues an hour later.<\/p>\n<p>The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>Around 1,800 students attend the highly-rated school, which immediately went into lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.<\/p>\n<p>The woman&#8217;s next-of-kin have been informed.<\/p>\n<p>Following the emergency, the school sent an email to parents explaining that pupils would be dismissed early due to the ongoing situation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"93dc8\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"665e17281a412f3c074602d89390bf5a\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201372%201153'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/king-s-school-winchester.png\" width=\"1372\" height=\"1153\" alt=\"King's School Winchester\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The school remained closed on Friday after the teacher&#8217;s death<\/p>\n<p> | <\/p>\n<p>GOOGLE<\/p>\n<p>Year 11 examinations continued as scheduled despite her death.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All pupils are safe and remain supervised. We are now beginning a controlled dismissal process,&#8221; the email said.<\/p>\n<p>The school remained closed on Friday as well.<\/p>\n<p>Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance confirmed its team was deployed by helicopter to Winchester that morning<\/p>\n<p>                READ MORE FROM THE SOUTH EAST:<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of floral tributes, candles and cards were placed at the school gates the next day.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds gathered to pay their respects to the teacher, identified locally as Mrs Bamford, who served as the school&#8217;s head of business and computing.<\/p>\n<p>One pupil wrote: &#8220;You were a wonderful teacher and will forever be remembered. Thank you for always being kind.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another card read: &#8220;You were such a sweet, kind, lovable, enjoyable and free soul. You would never ever hurt a fly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On social media, one former student wrote: &#8220;Thank you for being the kind of teacher that inspired and taught with kindness and compassion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another tribute read: &#8220;One of the kindest and caring teachers. We are completely devastated by this news.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>One pupil described Mrs Bamford as &#8220;a beautiful lady who just had a lovely aura about her.
