along with Canterbury, Dartford, Dover, Folkestone and Hythe, Maidstone, Swale &#8211; that also charges people for both the collection service and the bin itself.<\/p>\n<p>Those in the Dartford borough are charged the most for a bin at \u00a356, which, along with its \u00a353 subscription cost, means a new user will have to pay \u00a3109 for the service.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 4401 2880\" alt=\"Suez workers collecting garden waste in Ashford\" data-root=\"\/_media\/img\/\" data-path=\"JFZ3DEXJEUFE8G7JJLQX.jpg\" data-ar=\"1.53\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/JFZ3DEXJEUFE8G7JJLQX.jpg\" alt=\"Suez workers collecting garden waste in Ashford\"\/>Suez workers collecting garden waste in Ashford<\/p>\n<p>Every authority provides 240-litre bins, except for Folkestone and Hythe District Council (FHDC) which offers 180 litres.<\/p>\n<p>Whitstable\u2019s Imogen Tinkler, 43, saw her bin stolen last year and says she has no intention of subscribing now.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cCharging more for brown bins just creates a two\u2011tier system; some people will pay because they can, but others will put garden waste in their normal rubbish and cover it with other stuff, or be tempted to fly\u2011tip.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI won\u2019t be paying for the brown bin. Yes, probably.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do think it\u2019s a lot of money just to get rid of garden waste\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you live in a village or a town when the binmen come round anyway then you shouldn\u2019t be paying a lot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if you live in the middle of nowhere like I do I would expect to pay more as it\u2019s further to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Kayleigh Hilbert, of Newington, Sittingbourne, say it is \u201ccheeky\u201d SBC is now charging residents \u00a310 for a new bin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe moved here from Medway where it was free, but haven\u2019t paid for one since,\u201d Mrs Hilbert said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPaying \u00a362 does put us off.
