So, we were left with nothing. I worked all my life, the same as Sam. And we want to leave something for the kids eventually.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we ever passed away, they\u2019ve got something. We want them to see that hard work does pay off.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re not going to get handed everything, but you get out what you put in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want them to grow up knowing you do have to work for what you want, but if you put in the work, you get the results.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barry, a former chef and audiovisual engineer for concerts, says \u201cfresh food is key\u201d and the whole vision has been built on \u201cquality\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>When they first got the keys in January, it was all hands on deck to transform the vacant bank which closed in July 2024, from a \u201cbare shell\u201d into their dream business.<\/p>\n<p>The Linsell\u2019s worked with Rap Interiors from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentonline.co.uk\/maidstone\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maidstone<\/a> to bring the vision to life, with a view of creating a \u201chome from home\u201d style environment which is cosy and warm but modern.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 474 383\" alt=\"The coffee shop is in the former NatWest in Larkfield which closed in 2024\" data-root=\"\/_media\/img\/\" data-path=\"NN97SPB27JZ69G5SK71C.jpg\" data-ar=\"1.24\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/NN97SPB27JZ69G5SK71C.jpg\" alt=\"The coffee shop is in the former NatWest in Larkfield which closed in 2024\"\/>The coffee shop is in the former NatWest in Larkfield which closed in 2024<\/p>\n<p>The mum-of-two, who also works as a bookkeeper, said: \u201cYou get what you pay for. So we wanted quality that is going to last. Not something that we\u2019re going to have to replace or repair in a year or two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, high-quality coffee is on the menu provided by GoatHerd Coffee in Wouldham, with a view to \u201ckeeping the whole vibe local\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The proud parents from Ditton, who have a daughter aged three-and-a-half and a nine-month-old baby, say the journey to opening has been \u201cdifficult in some places\u201d but Sam says the hard work is going to be worth it.<\/p>\n<p>They can\u2019t wait to welcome the local community who they say has already shown so much love and enthusiasm for the coffee shop.<\/p>\n<p>Barry added: \u201cWhere we moved from London, there was no community feel. A nice, warm, safe, space where people can come and sit down and they\u2019re not rushed out. You can sit down and chat to your friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 44-year-old confesses he loves entertaining, from a BBQ to cooking for friends and thought: \u201cWhy not do it for other people?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the challenges in the hospitality sector, Sam said: \u201cIt is a challenging time but we are basing our coffee shop on quality, not just chucking out frozen food.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first coffee at six in the morning, we know is going to be the same as the last coffee at 4.30pm at the end of the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The couple say careful consideration has been put into every aspect of the business, from pricing, to the interior, the team of nine staff members, and the menu which boasts a range of baguettes, sandwiches, gluten-free and vegan options, cakes, pastries and children\u2019s plates to make sure everyone is included.<\/p>\n<p>Coincidentally, one of Barry\u2019s first jobs as a chef was in a former bank, a restaurant called the Metropolitan in Newcastle, where he prepped everything in the old safe which was underground.<\/p>\n<p>Now, he\u2019ll be preparing food next to a safe of his own, as the former bank safe is one of the only remnants of the building\u2019s time as a branch of NatWest, to remain.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 3639 2712\" alt=\"The Old Bank Coffee Shop in London Road, Larkfield opens today (May 18)\" data-root=\"\/_media\/img\/\" data-path=\"H2AY18EC27NE84YERMVY.jpg\" data-ar=\"1.34\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/H2AY18EC27NE84YERMVY.jpg\" alt=\"The Old Bank Coffee Shop in London Road, Larkfield opens today (May 18)\"\/>The Old Bank Coffee Shop in London Road, Larkfield opens today (May 18)<\/p>\n<p>The Old Bank Coffee Shop opens today (May 18).
