{"id":42610,"date":"2026-05-20T21:35:31","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T21:35:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/42610\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T21:35:31","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T21:35:31","slug":"diageo-readies-tequilas-for-world-cup-travel-retail-takeover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/42610\/","title":{"rendered":"Diageo readies Tequilas for World Cup travel retail takeover"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"standfirst u-standfirst\">Drinks giant Diageo has unveiled its travel retail plan for its flagship Tequila brands, Don Julio and Casamigos, ahead of the Fifa World Cup.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Diageo\" width=\"650\" height=\"410\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Diageo-6.jpg\" data- class=\"wp-image-912499 size-full lazyload\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-912499 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Diageo-6.jpg\" alt=\"Diageo\" width=\"650\" height=\"410\"  \/>Diageo has outlined a major travel retail push for its Tequila brands ahead of the 2026 Fifa World Cup<\/p>\n<p>Diageo is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespiritsbusiness.com\/2025\/05\/diageo-teams-up-with-fifa-for-world-cup-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">official spirits supporter<\/a> of the football tournament, which kicks off in June.<\/p>\n<p>For the tournament, which the company has earmarked as \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespiritsbusiness.com\/2026\/05\/world-cup-critically-important-for-diageo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">critically important<\/a>\u2019 for its strategy this year, Diageo has readied more than 100 activations across 34 airports for Don Julio and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespiritsbusiness.com\/2026\/03\/casamigos-brings-friendly-rivalry-to-fifa-world-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Casamigos<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Launching in June, the activations will appear across North and South America, as well as the tournament\u2019s host cities in Canada, Mexico and the US.<\/p>\n<p>Diageo\u2019s managing director of global travel, Andrew Cowan, said: \u201cOur partnership with the Fifa World Cup 2026 offers an unparalleled opportunity to engage consumers during a truly global cultural moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy placing Don Julio and Casamigos at the centre of this celebration through standout activations and memorable experiences, we aim to capture the energy of the tournament and elevate how travellers discover and enjoy Tequila.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The activations are aimed at engaging and educating travellers in Tequila through fan-focused, immersive experiences. Some will take over the region\u2019s biggest travel hubs.<\/p>\n<p>For instance at JFK Airport in New York, a Casamigos \u2018Frenemy Zone\u2019 will offer a foosball table and cocktail bar, while a Don Julio experiential space at Mexico City International Airport will feature a luxury \u2018golden trophy\u2019 podium and exclusive bottle personalisation.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile in Cancun, travellers will find a digital in-store takeover and Don Julio 1942 bottle personalisation exclusive to the airport, alongside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespiritsbusiness.com\/2026\/03\/don-julio-unveils-1942-fifa-world-cup-bottle\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Don Julio 1942 Fifa World Cup Edition<\/a> bottle.<\/p>\n<p>The bottle will also be available to purchase at major airports in the US, Canada and Mexico in 750ml or 50ml miniature formats.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, branded Don Julio cups and reversible Casamigos bucket hats can be purchased at key travel retail locations.<\/p>\n<p>Diageo will also use the travel retail push to showcase Tequila-based cocktails to travellers.
