So imagine you bought your ticket three weeks ago to fly from Gatwick to Dublin and you paid \u00a317, they calculated the fuel at \u00a375 but now the fuel is \u00a3147, so they\u2019re losing money significantly.\u2019<\/p>\n She adds airlines can\u2019t absorb these costs and they can\u2019t put a surcharge on the remaining tickets because they won\u2019t sell if they\u2019re twice or triple the price.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018Airlines are also afraid of losses,\u2019 Marina explains. \u2018If they cancel the flight two weeks before then you\u2019re not entitled to compensation, you only get a refund or credit, but if they cancel the flight a day or so before, you\u2019re also entitled to compensation, so that\u2019s why they\u2019re proactive.\u2019<\/p>\n Skybus also likely cancelled these flights because Cornwall Council had already agreed to scrap the service back in February after failing to find a tender to continue its public service obligation ensuring air connectivity to more isolated regions.<\/p>\n Customers who had booked this route with the airline received an email saying: \u2018As you may be aware, the flights are operated under a Public Service Obligation which was scheduled to conclude on May 31, 2026.<\/p>\n \u2018In view of circumstances beyond our control, Skybus has advised Cornwall Council that services will now cease at an earlier date. The final services in each direction will take place on Thursday, April 2, 2026.<\/p>\n \u2018We are therefore contacting all customers with bookings throughout April and May to advise that flights will no longer take place as planned.\u2019<\/p>\n The airline added it \u2018sincerely regrets the disappointment and inconvenience\u2019 caused by these changes and customers will be getting a full refund.<\/p>\n \t\t One affected traveller told CornwallLive that these cancellations have forced them to make \u2018complicated travel plans\u2019 involving an overnight stay and rebooking with alternative providers.<\/p>\n Labelled by visitors on Tripadvisor as \u2018stunning\u2019 and a \u2018beautiful seaside spot with golden sand\u2019, Cornwall is a popular staycation spot with around four million visitors every year.<\/p>\n A Skybus spokesperson said: \u2018Unforeseen circumstances developing in recent weeks have led to the decision, of which Cornwall Council has been notified under the terms of the Public Service Obligation agreement between the airline and council.\u2019<\/p>\n Managing director Jonathan Hinkles added: \u2018The huge rise in the global cost of fuel following the conflict in the Gulf, coupled to a significant drop in new passenger bookings since mid-February\u2019s announcement of the planned closure of the PSO air route on May 31, form an insurmountable barrier to the service continuing through April and May.<\/p>\n \u2018At a time of great economic uncertainty and steps being taken to conserve energy worldwide, it is neither environmentally nor economically sound for us to continue flying with vastly reduced passenger numbers.<\/p>\n \u2018We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all those who have supported us \u2013 whether as passengers, as local stakeholders or as team members delivering service to our customers \u2013 through our recent months of Cornwall-London air service provision.\u2019<\/p>\n Do you have a story to share?<\/p>\n Get in touch by emailing MetroLifestyleTeam@Metro.co.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow Arrow![\"UK](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/SEI_291802308-2588.jpg\")
