{"id":44293,"date":"2026-05-21T16:22:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T16:22:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/44293\/"},"modified":"2026-05-21T16:22:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T16:22:14","slug":"tssa-comment-on-violent-death-of-london-bus-driver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/44293\/","title":{"rendered":"TSSA comment on violent death of London bus driver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Transport union TSSA has\u00a0described\u00a0as \u2018tragic\u2019 the death of a London bus driver as\u00a0police\u00a0begin\u00a0a murder investigation\u00a0after a man was arrested.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/clypnj4dnk5o\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sergei Krajev<\/a>, who was 64, died on Tuesday after being found critically injured\u00a0near his bus on Battersea Bridge on Monday evening. He was taken to hospital by air ambulance.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>TSSA has been at the forefront of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tssa.org.uk\/about-tssa\/what-we-do\/campaigning\/stop-violence-against-transport-workers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">campaign to protect transport workers<\/a>\u00a0in the face of\u00a0escalating\u00a0threats,\u00a0abuse\u00a0and violence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Commenting, TSSA General Secretary, Maryam Eslamdoust said:\u00a0\u201cSergei\u2019s death is shocking and tragic. As a union with many members on the\u00a0front\u00a0line of our\u00a0transport\u00a0networks\u00a0we feel this loss deeply.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have long been clear that solidarity is not enough \u2013 we need to see action which will keep transport workers safe.\u00a0Over many months we have seen attacks, intimidation and abuse rising to\u00a0unprecedented levels.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way forward it to\u00a0greatly increase\u00a0the investment in the British Transport\u00a0Police, along with a ban on lone working \u2013 not just at night, and banning orders to remove violent offenders permanently from public transport.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bottom line is transport workers must feel safe and respected while performing their essential duties.
