about <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/world\/2186714\/urgent-food-shortage-warning-issued\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">supplies<\/a> because deliveries have been affected by iran&#8217;s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>Following the beginning of the war, health officials raised concerns about the potential impact the conflict could have on existing medical shortages.<\/p>\n<p>The warning comes after UK pharmacies have already faced stock struggles of painkiller medication including aspirin, codeine and paracetamol.<\/p>\n<p>As well as painkiller tablets, antidepressants and HRT have also faced stock issues alongside cancer medications, including Efudix, a chemotherapy cream.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, pharmacy leaders and manufacturers sounded the alarm over the disruption and potential impact on existing medicine shortages.<\/p>\n<p> Read more: <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/life-style\/cars\/2188132\/petrol-station-fuel-shortage-diesel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Petrol stations \u2018running dry\u2019 as trend hits UK forecourts <\/a><\/p>\n<p> Read more: <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/uk\/2188801\/iran-fuel-shortage-update-drivers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Fuel shortage update as drivers given important message on what to do now <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sir Jim said on a phone interview with LBC Radio: \u201cWe are really worried about this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve already had a couple of supply shocks in the last 12 to 18 months of key supplies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that there is a team in place to \u201cfocus on where the risks might be through the supply chains\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, when probed what he was concerned would run low, he said: \u201cWell, everything, honestly \u2013 everything\u2019s at risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cIn every area, we\u2019ve got enough to get through for a reasonable period\u2026 so generally, a few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause things perish and it costs money to store and various other things go out of out of use, you can\u2019t hold years and years of supply, generally dependent on the product we keep a reasonable period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of that is held centrally, some held locally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sir Jim responded to a question whether it would be &#8220;weeks worth of supply&#8221;: \u201cYeah, it could be days for some products\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The continued blockade of the strait has already caused concern for fuel supply and costs, with the latest deliveries expected to arrive in the UK on April 10.<\/p>\n<p>Henry Gregg, chief executive of the National Pharmacy Association said: \u201cWe\u2019re not currently seeing shortages of medicine directly linked to the conflict in the Middle East, but pharmacies are seeing disturbing spikes in prices which can be an early indicator of challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department of Health have issued unprecedented numbers of price concessions designed to cope with price surges, which are likely exacerbated by this current situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"withoutCaption\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/nhs-pharmacy-sign-with-green-cross-on-brick-wall-6836303.jpg\" class=\"zoomEnabled\" data-img=\"https:\/\/cdn.images.express.co.uk\/img\/dynamic\/1\/1200x712\/secondary\/nhs-pharmacy-sign-with-green-cross-on-brick-wall-6836303.jpg?r=1775030385094\" alt=\"NHS pharmacy sign with green cross on brick wall\" title=\"NHS pharmacy sign with green cross on brick wall\" width=\"590\" height=\"443\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>NHS head has said they are &#8220;really worried&#8221;
