Scam parking fines are being texted to residents<\/p>\n

City of York Council is warning drivers to stay vigilant after residents are reporting a parking ticket scam.<\/p>\n

A parking scam involving fake Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) has targeted people in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

Scammers send text messages claiming the recipient has had a parking ticket. They urge them to click a link which leads to a fake Government website. Recipients are asked to give their details and pay the fine.<\/p>\n

The Council never texts PCNs to people. They are fixed to a vehicle, occasionally given to the driver or posted.<\/p>\n

PCNs that arrive in any other way should be treated with suspicion; links should not be clicked and personal or payment information should not be shared.<\/p>\n

Councillor Katie Lomas, Executive Member\u00a0for Equality and Inclusion and with portfolio for fraud at City of York Council, said: \u201cIf you receive a parking fine by text or email, please do not go to the link. Do not give any of your personal or banking details. Instead, please report this to Veritau.\u201d<\/p>\n
