The body of a 12-year-old boy has been pulled from the River Ribble.<\/p>\n
The boy had been swimming with friends when he got into \u2018difficulty\u2019 at around 2pm on Tuesday in Ribchester, Lancashire.<\/p>\n
A Lancashire Police spokesman said the force had \u2018very sad news\u2019 to announce.<\/p>\n
The force said: \u2018A large-scale search involving officers from Lancashire Police\u2019s underwater search unit and colleagues from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service was launched, with colleagues from North-West Ambulance Service providing support.<\/p>\n
\u2018Very sadly, a body was recovered from the river around 7.50pm.<\/p>\n

Start your day informed with Metro’s News Updates<\/a> newsletter or get Breaking News<\/a> alerts the moment it happens. <\/p>\n \u2018While formal identification has not yet taken place, we believe it to be the body of the missing boy.<\/p>\n \u2018His family are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers, and our thoughts are very much with his loved ones at this extremely distressing time.\u2019<\/p>\n The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be passed in due course to HM Coroner.<\/p>\n It came after a heroic man died after trying to save his wife and granddaughter who got into difficulty in the sea.<\/p>\n \t\t Emergency services rushed to a\u00a0beach<\/a>\u00a0near\u00a0Padstow<\/a>\u00a0around 3.50pm on bank holiday Monday (May 25).<\/p>\n A man was found \u2018suffering cardiac arrest in the sea\u2019 at Tregirls Beach after he entered the water to try and save two family members, police said.<\/p>\n The family members were brought to safety by other beachgoers.<\/p>\n The man, who is local and in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been made aware.<\/p>\n A relative posted on Facebook: \u2018I am so proud to call this man my brother\u2019.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for\u00a0Devon and Cornwall Police<\/a>\u00a0said: \u2018We were called by the Ambulance Service at around 3.50pm on Monday 25 May following a report of a man suffering a cardiac arrest in the sea at Tregirls Beach, Padstow.<\/p>\n \u2018Emergency services and the RNLI attended the scene but sadly, the local man in his 60s was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin are aware.<\/p>\n \u2018The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner.\u2019<\/p>\n It came as police in West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Warwickshire have confirmed the deaths of two teenage boys and a teenage girl.<\/p>\n \t\t A 13-year-old boy, named locally as Reco Puttock, was pronounced dead after being pulled from water near Halifax.<\/p>\n A few hours later, a 16-year-old girl was found dead at a water park in Warwickshire<\/a>.<\/p>\n South Yorkshire Police have also confirmed the death of a teenage boy in Rother Valley Country Park, Rotherham.<\/p>\n The search is on for a missing 12-year-old boy who vanished swimming with friends in the River Ribble.<\/p>\n A Lancashire Police spokesman told Metro: \u2018We were called at just after 2pm today (Tuesday, May 26th) to a concern for the welfare of a child who had gone into the river at Ribchester.<\/p>\n \u2018The child, a boy, had got into difficulty while swimming with friends.<\/p>\n \u2018Emergency services are at the scene and searches are ongoing.\u2019<\/p>\n The hottest day of May was recorded yesterday<\/a>, with temperatures reaching 34.8\u00b0C at Kew in south London<\/a>.<\/p>\n \t\t It comes after the body of another boy \u2013 Declan Sawyer, 15 \u2013 was found at Swanholme Lakes in Lincoln on Sunday<\/a>.<\/p>\n Health warnings issued over UK heatwave<\/p>\n Thousands flocked to beaches, water parks and reservoirs yesterday as the hottest day of May was recorded<\/a> at 34.8\u00b0C.<\/p>\n The previous record was set in 1944, when Britain was baked by 32.8\u00b0C.<\/p>\n Forecasters\u00a0described<\/a>\u00a0the heat as \u2018unprecedented for the time of year,\u2019 stressing that temperature records are typically broken by only fractions of a degree.<\/p>\n Multiple\u00a0amber and yellow heat health warnings<\/a>\u00a0remain in place today, warning that there could be a \u2018rise in deaths\u2019.<\/p>\n Amber alerts \u2013 \u00a0the second-highest warning level in the UK Health<\/a> Security Agency (UKHSA) three-tier system \u2013 are active in:<\/p>\n London<\/p>\n East of England<\/p>\n South East<\/p>\n West Midlands<\/p>\n East Midlands<\/p>\n Yellow warnings cover the rest of England.
