{"id":49793,"date":"2026-05-27T08:14:21","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T08:14:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/49793\/"},"modified":"2026-05-27T08:14:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T08:14:21","slug":"diageo-world-class-names-uae-champion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/49793\/","title":{"rendered":"Diageo World Class names UAE champion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"standfirst u-standfirst\">Sharfin Auni of Nobu Dubai has triumphed as World Class United Arab Emirates (UAE) Bartender of the Year 2026 and will progress to the global final in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Diageo World Class UAE\" width=\"650\" height=\"410\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Diageo-World-Class.jpg\" data- class=\"wp-image-912233 size-full lazyload\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-912233 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Diageo-World-Class.jpg\" alt=\"Diageo World Class UAE\" width=\"650\" height=\"410\"  \/>This year was Auni\u2019s third World Class attempt<\/p>\n<p>Auni\u2019s win comes during a testing time in the region, with the conflict in the Middle East forcing this year\u2019s global final to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespiritsbusiness.com\/2026\/04\/diageo-world-class-moves-global-final-from-dubai-to-scotland\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">moved from Dubai to Scotland<\/a>. Diageo said it \u201cremains committed\u201d to bringing the final back to Dubai in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>She was crowned World Class UAE Bartender of the Year 2026 on her third go at the competition, and will now represent the UAE at the World Class global finals in Scotland later this year.<\/p>\n<p>Auni said: \u201cComing back to the finals for the third year and finally taking the title of World Class UAE Bartender of the Year 2026 feels surreal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a journey of constant learning and pushing myself further each time. World Class has given me so much, not just as a competition, but through the people and the community around it. I\u2019m really excited to represent the UAE at the global finals in Scotland and bring it home!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The other regional finalists were Patrick Rowson and Rafael Soler of Sexy Fish, following competition from more than 200 bartenders across the region.<\/p>\n<p>The trio competed in two distinct challenges. The first, a speed challenge, required them to make five cocktails in five minutes, including one serve with Guinness.<\/p>\n<p>The second, titled \u2018Don Julio Own the Night\u2019, asked each bartender to present a pre-developed tableside mixer concept paired with Don Julio Reposado, which could be produced at scale and served across the venue.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Diageo World Class\" width=\"350\" height=\"350\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Diageo-World-Class-1-350x350.jpg\" data- class=\"wp-image-912235 size-thumbnail lazyload\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-912235 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Diageo-World-Class-1-350x350.jpg\" alt=\"Diageo World Class\" width=\"350\" height=\"350\"  \/>Auni is currently the head bartender at Nobu Dubai at Atlantis The Palm<\/p>\n<p>Antoinette Drumm, managing director of Diageo in The Middle East and North Africa (MENA), said: \u201cThe 2026 finals were a powerful reflection of the strength and resilience within the UAE\u2019s bartending community, with the industry coming together to celebrate Patrick, Sharfin and Rafael.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe level of talent we\u2019ve seen, despite the challenges the industry is facing, is a true testament to the individuals behind it. World Class exists to support and elevate that talent, and Shaaz is a true representation of what the community stands for today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The judging panel for the UAE finals included: Marco Corallo, beverage director at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespiritsbusiness.com\/2025\/11\/saikindo-bar-to-open-in-four-seasons-abu-dhabi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Saikindo<\/a>; Laura Duca, beverage manager at Atlantis The Palm; Russel Sanchez, World Class UAE Winner 2009; Francesco Galdi, corporate operations and beverage manager at Buddha Bar Worldwide; Lana Shemonaeva, managing partner at Lady Bird; Nana Sechere, regional beverage expert; Tibor Krascsenics, group beverage director at La Petite Maison; Ross Matthews-Smith, co-founder and CEO of Fibber Magee\u2019s; and Jimmy Barrat, World Class UAE Alumni.<\/p>\n<p>Recognising the current situation in the Middle East, Diageo World Class UAE recently launched a Humans of Hospitality programme to support local talent in one of the most challenging periods for UAE\u2019s hospitality industry in recent years.
