A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 80s was fatally stabbed outside her home address. <\/p>\n
Met police officers were called at 08:50hrs on Wednesday, 1 April to Red Lion Place, Plumstead following reports of a man in possession of a knife. Officers attended alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and a woman was located with serious injuries. The woman in her 80s was taken to hospital where she sadly died. <\/p>\n
Another man was also threatened with a knife but did not sustain any injuries. <\/p>\n
Shortly after 09:10hrs a man in his 60s presented himself at a nearby Met police station where he was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken to hospital by officers, where he is receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. <\/p>\n
At this stage, it is believed the person arrested and deceased victim were known to each other. Officers are not looking for any further suspects.<\/p>\n
The woman\u2019s family are aware and will continue to be supported by specialist officers. <\/p>\n
Detective Inspector Dean Grice, who is leading on the Met\u2019s investigation, said: \u201cThis is a deeply tragic incident, and our thoughts remain firmly with the victim\u2019s family during this difficult time. <\/p>\n
\u201cOfficers responded swiftly to the initial reports and worked closely with London Ambulance Service colleagues to provide immediate care at the scene. <\/p>\n
\u201cA prompt and coordinated investigation has now been launched to establish the full circumstances, and specialist officers are continuing to support the family throughout.\u201d <\/p>\n
Detective Superintendent James Derham, who leads policing in the local area, added: \u201cAt this stage, we believe that this was an isolated incident and I want to reassure the community that there is no wider risk to the public. <\/p>\n
