A man has been accused of murdering his mother at their home, it emerged in court today.<\/p>\n

Joshua Izu is alleged to have killed 64-year-old Oji Izu in Khartoum Square, Whitfield, near Dover.<\/p>\n

Police were called to reports of an assault on a woman<\/a> at the semi-detached house shortly before 3.30pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n

She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her next of kin have been informed.<\/p>\n

Officers arrested a suspect at the location in connection with the incident<\/a> and remanded him in custody.<\/p>\n

Joshua Izu, 32, was charged with murder yesterday.<\/p>\n

Appearing in the dock at Maidstone Crown Court today, dressed in grey prison attire, it was revealed that the alleged victim is the mother of the defendant.<\/p>\n

Prosecuting, Danny Moore KC, said that health professionals had attended the defendant\u2019s home. Ms Izu was found dead upstairs in the home.<\/p>\n

The next hearing was set for April 28 at Canterbury Crown Court, and a trial date has been listed to start on November 2, with John Fitzgerald KC expected to defend.<\/p>\n

No application was made for bail and Judge Julian Smith remanded Izu into custody at HMP Elmley.<\/p>\n

During a brief magistrates\u2019 hearing yesterday, it was noted that Ms Izu is believed to have died at some point between Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29.<\/p>\n

Police said there will be an increased presence in Whitfield as officers continue their inquiries, and a cordon in Khartoum Square has been stood down.<\/p>\n

Neighbours described a strong emergency response and paid tribute<\/a> to Ms Izu on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was a very lovely, beautiful, Christian woman. She was quiet. She was a peaceful woman,\u201d a resident said.<\/p>\n

Another described the area as \u201cpretty chilled,\u201d adding: \u201cI have never had drama, and as long as you keep to yourself, you\u2019re fine. I have lived here 20-odd years.\u201d<\/p>\n

There were forensics, police and critical care here yesterday.<\/p>\n

Another resident described the street as \u201ca lovely, quiet area\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone looks out for everyone here. My kids know they can knock on anyone\u2019s door and someone will help them,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken to the police to contact them.<\/p>\n

Residents with private CCTV and motorists with dashcam are also asked to check for relevant footage.<\/p>\n
