{"id":50496,"date":"2026-05-28T03:07:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T03:07:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/50496\/"},"modified":"2026-05-28T03:07:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T03:07:14","slug":"shell-moves-to-exit-french-fuel-retail-market-in-strategic-pivot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/50496\/","title":{"rendered":"Shell Moves to Exit French Fuel Retail Market in Strategic Pivot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"speakable\">Shell plans to sell its network of about 60 service stations in France in a deal that could be finalized early next year, French daily Les Echos <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/industrie-services\/energie-environnement\/le-petrolier-shell-cherche-a-vendre-son-reseau-de-stations-service-en-france-2231103\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> on Tuesday, quoting a communication the UK-based supermajor has shared with the affected employees, suppliers, and concessionaires.<\/p>\n<p>Shell expects to find a buyer for its French service station network in the third quarter of this year, the company told workers\u2019 unions last month, Les Echos reports.<\/p>\n<p>Shell doesn\u2019t own the service stations in France directly, as they are operated under multi-year concession contracts with highway concessionaires including Vinci, Cofiroute, and ASF.<\/p>\n<p>But Shell supplies these stations with fuel and other services in exchange for a fee.<\/p>\n<p>The Shell-branded service stations in France posted an operating profit of about $127.5 million (108.5 million euros) last year, according to Les Echos.<\/p>\n<p>The UK-based supermajor has been working for years under CEO Wael Sawan to streamline operations and boost shareholder returns, with a return to the core business of the group\u2014oil and gas production and trading.<\/p>\n<p>Shell has recently agreed to buy Canada\u2019s ARC Resources in a <a href=\"https:\/\/oilprice.com\/Latest-Energy-News\/World-News\/Shell-Bets-164-Billion-On-Canadian-Gas-In-Major-LNG-Growth-Push.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$16.4-billion deal<\/a> that will add roughly 370,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to production and strengthen the supermajor\u2019s position in one of the continent\u2019s most strategic gas corridors.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The acquisition, expected to close in the second half of 2026, is expected to give Shell access to about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shell.com\/news-and-insights\/newsroom\/news-and-media-releases\/2026\/shell-announces-agreement-to-acquire-canadian-energy-company-arc-resources.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2 billion barrels<\/a> of reserves while bolstering supply feeding LNG Canada, the export project that Shell operates with a 40% stake and increasingly views as a cornerstone of its Asia growth strategy.
