Multiple police and military personnel will be stationed around a Welsh Airport on Thursday to carry out a planned response to major incidents, as the terrorism threat in the UK remains at “substantial”.<\/p>\n

South Wales Police<\/a> said a pre-planned training exercise was being held today. The exercise involves HM Forces and police at St Athan Airport. It will test contingency plans and the co-ordination of responses to major incidents.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: \u201cLocal residents or people passing through the area may notice and hear increased noise.<\/p>\n

“Risk assessments have been undertaken, and we expect disruption to the public to be kept to an absolute minimum. This exercise has been planned for some time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not in response to any recent incident, intelligence, or threat. The threat from terrorism remains at substantial, which means an attack is likely.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former military airfield at St Athan was transferred to civilian control in 2019 and is now owned by the Welsh Government<\/a>.<\/p>\n
