{"id":50841,"date":"2026-05-28T12:25:12","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T12:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/50841\/"},"modified":"2026-05-28T12:25:12","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T12:25:12","slug":"bae-systems-to-supply-rook-soft-kill-protection-kit-for-us-army-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/50841\/","title":{"rendered":"BAE Systems to Supply ROOK Soft-Kill Protection Kit for US Army Vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/dronefront.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">&#13;<br \/>\n    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/WhatsAppVideo2026-05-15at09.23.58.gif\" alt=\"The Drone Front\" width=\"1280\" height=\"539\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The US Army has awarded BAE Systems a contract to supply its active protection system (APS) to shield combat vehicles against threats like drones and anti-tank guided missiles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BAE was selected under the army\u2019s Soft Kill APS program, where the company is set to deliver its Rapid Optical Observation and Kill (ROOK) soft-kill countermeasure system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ROOK jams or confuses an enemy weapon\u2019s guidance systems to neutralize incoming threats, serving as a complementary layer to hard-kill countermeasures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dave Gillespie, director of Optics and Countermeasure Solutions at BAE Systems, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baesystems.com\/en-us\/article\/bae-systems-to-provide-active-protection-system-for-u-s-army-combat-vehicles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">described<\/a> ROOK as providing \u201ccost-effective, sustainable defense with an infinite magazine depth, continuously disrupting enemy systems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The contract also covers support for the further development of BAE Systems\u2019 Stormcrow and <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2024\/11\/20\/bae-electronic-countermeasure-us-ground-vehicle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Terra Raven countermeasure systems<\/a>, as well as the delivery of their prototypes to be used for vehicle integration and testing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BAE Systems manufactures its APS at its Austin, Texas facility, supported by its research and development team in Merrimack, New Hampshire.<\/p>\n<p>Army Vehicle Protection<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The US Army primarily fields hard-kill active protection systems on its M1 Abrams main battle tanks and select variants of the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This includes the <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2026\/04\/25\/trophy-aps-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Trophy APS<\/a>, developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, on the Abrams, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2026\/01\/26\/us-bradley-iron-fist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Elbit Systems\u2019 Iron Fist APS<\/a> on the Bradley platforms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both systems combine onboard radar and electro-optical or infrared sensors to provide 360-degree threat detection and situational awareness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the two systems differ in how they intercept incoming threats.
