Five more people have been arrested as detectives continue to investigate the alleged murder of a man in Eston. Peter Phillips died from a single gunshot wound on Saturday, May 23.<\/p>\n

Tony Gaffney, Jonathon Spencer and Annaliese McQuilling have appeared in court charged with murder.<\/p>\n

In the latest update, Cleveland Police have arrested four women, aged 58, 50, 36 and 32, and a 55-year-old man. They are suspected of assisting an offender and have been bailed pending further enquiries.<\/p>\n

A further two people, a 29-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were also bailed. It brings the total number of arrests since the start of the investigation to 12 with two of those – a 65-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman – being released with no further action.<\/p>\n

Mr Phillips, described as the “heart and soul” of his family, was found with “significant injuries” on Ayton Crescent at around 11pm. The 47-year-old was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. A family tribute read: “Peter had a big family who all loved him, he was the heart and soul of our family. We are devastated at his loss and feel we have been robbed of him.”<\/p>\n

Gaffney, 39, of Ambrose Road in Normanby; Spencer, 39, of Normanby Road; and McQuilling, 38, of Ayton Crescent, were charged with murder and appeared at Teesside Magistrates\u2019 Court on Wednesday, May 27. All three were remanded in custody until their next appearance at Teesside Crown Court on Friday, May 29.<\/p>\n

Detectives are continuing to investigate Mr Phillips’ tragic death. Senior Investigating Officer, David Glass, said: “We are still keen to hear from anyone with information or relevant dash cam or CCTV footage particularly between 7pm on Saturday, May 23, to 1am on Sunday, May 24, of two males riding a motorbike in the Bankfields Road, Eston and Grangetown areas.<\/p>\n
