BP PLC (LSE:BP.)<\/a>\u00a0shares fell 6.2% to\u00a0525.6p after chairman Albert Manifold was abruptly removed after the board said it uncovered “governance oversight and conduct issues”.<\/p>\n The FTSE 100 oil major announced the decision\u00a0on Tuesday afternoon, saying the board had unanimously agreed that Manifold should no longer serve as chairman or director,\u00a0with immediate effect.<\/p>\n No further details were provided about the nature of the concerns. Manifold was\u00a0appointed chair less than a year ago<\/a>\u00a0and has only been in the role for eight months.<\/p>\n Amanda Blanc, BP\u2019s senior independent director, said the board had been \u201csurprised and disappointed\u201d by what it had learned, despite Manifold helping bring \u201cfocus and pace\u201d to the company\u2019s transformation efforts.<\/p>\n Ian Tyler, the former Balfour Beatty chief executive and current non-executive director, has been appointed interim chairman while BP begins a search for a permanent replacement.<\/p>\n The abrupt departure adds to a period of upheaval at the top of BP, which has had three chief executives in less than three years.<\/p>\n
