Staley is challenging his ban from the UK finance sector over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>Tayfun Salci | Anadolu | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/05\/24\/former-jpmorgan-exec-jes-staley-loses-bid-to-dismiss-suit-over-jeffrey-epstein-ties.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jes Staley<\/a>, the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/JPM\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">JPMorgan Chase<\/a> executive and ex-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/BCS\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Barclays<\/a> CEO, has agreed to be interviewed on about his relationship with notorious sex offender <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/15\/epstein-files-fallout-goldman-ruemmler-harvard-yale.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeffrey Epstein<\/a> on July 23 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">House Oversight and Government Reform Committee<\/a>, a spokesman for the panel confirmed Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/376237d6-64ca-4804-90c5-2f83d78ed288?syn-25a6b1a6=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Financial Times<\/a> first reported that Staley accepted the invitation for a voluntary transcribed interview extended to him three weeks ago by Oversight Chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky.<\/p>\n<p>The Oversight panel has been conducting a series of interviews with high-profile people about Epstein, including former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/bill-clinton\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Clinton<\/a>, former Secretary of State <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/hillary-clinton\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton<\/a>, and Commerce Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/06\/jeffrey-epstein-howard-lutnick-house-oversight-commerce.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Howard Lutnick<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Former Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/29\/epstein-pam-bondi-doj-blanche-oversight.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pam Bondi<\/a> was interviewed by the committee on Friday about the Department of Justice&#8217;s handling of the release of its files about Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft co-founder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/07\/jeffrey-epstein-bill-gates-house-oversight.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Gates<\/a> is scheduled to be interviewed by the Oversight committee on June 10 about his dealings with Epstein. <\/p>\n<p>Billionaire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/leon-black\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leon Black<\/a> is reportedly scheduled to be interviewed by the panel on June 26, and Goldman Sachs general counsel Kathryn Ruemmler is reportedly scheduled to be interviewed on July 15.<\/p>\n<p>Staley was a friend of Epstein, who had been a major client of JPMorgan&#8217;s private wealth and asset management divisions when Staley ran them.<\/p>\n<p>Epstein, a former friend of President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a>, died from a jailhouse suicide in New York in August 2019, weeks after being arrested on federal child sex trafficking charges.<\/p>\n<p>JPMorgan in 2023 agreed to pay victims of Epstein $290 million to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/06\/12\/jpmorgan-reaches-settlement-with-epstein-victim-in-lawsuit.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">settle a lawsuit<\/a> that the bank had facilitated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/03\/20\/jpmorgan-chase-can-be-sued-by-virgin-islands-over-jeffrey-epstein-sex-trafficking-claims.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sex trafficking<\/a> by Epstein, who was a client of JPMorgan. <\/p>\n<p>That same year, the bank agreed to pay $75 million to settle a similar lawsuit by the government of the U.S. Virgin Islands, and separately agreed to a confidential settlement with Staley to resolve the bank&#8217;s claims that he was responsible for any civil damages and costs associated with Epstein-related litigation.<\/p>\n<p>In both public settlements, JPMorgan did not admit wrongdoing in its dealings with Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>Read more CNBC politics coverage<\/p>\n<p>Staley served as CEO of Barclays from October 2015 until his resignation in late 2021. <\/p>\n<p>His departure came after a probe by the United Kingdom&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/10\/12\/former-barclays-ceo-staley-fined-and-banned-by-uk-regulator-over-epstein-links.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Financial Conduct Authority<\/a> into how he had characterized his relationship with Epstein to Barclays and the subsequent description of that relationship in Barclays&#8217; response to the FCA.<\/p>\n<p>That regulator fined Staley more than $2 million and permanently banned him from holding a management role in the sector in 2023. <\/p>\n<p>Barclays noted at the time that the investigation &#8220;makes no findings that Mr Staley saw, or was aware of, any of Mr Epstein&#8217;s alleged crimes, which was the central question underpinning Barclays&#8217; support for Mr Staley following the arrest of Mr Epstein in the summer of 2019.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-51486711\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Staley, in 2020, said,<\/a> &#8220;Obviously, I thought I knew him well, and I didn&#8217;t.
