{"id":55197,"date":"2026-06-03T10:42:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T10:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/55197\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T10:42:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T10:42:10","slug":"malaysia-taps-hong-kong-battery-expertise-to-power-ambitions-for-electricity-grid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/55197\/","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia taps Hong Kong battery expertise to power ambitions for electricity grid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/malaysia?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Malaysian<\/a> power systems specialist has struck a deal with a Hong Kong battery storage firm to pursue large-scale projects aimed at helping the country prepare its electricity grid for more renewable energy.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The two-year agreement between Mikro MSC Berhad and Hong Kong Cospower Technology Co Ltd (HKCT) makes the company HKCT\u2019s exclusive strategic partner in Malaysia for utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Such battery systems are meant to address one of solar power\u2019s biggest challenges: storing electricity generated during the day for use when demand rises.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The tie-up comes as battery makers expand overseas to meet rising demand for electric vehicles and stationary storage, while Sino-US trade tensions push companies to diversify production outside China.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The companies will jointly \u201cidentify, develop, negotiate and execute storage projects\u201d linked to the national grid, including solar-plus-storage and selected commercial and industrial schemes, according to a press release.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The deal was signed in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof, who also holds the energy transition portfolio.
