Officers made a disturbing discovery after stopping a car on the M6. The red Volkswagen Polo was pulled over shortly before midnight on May 28 after ANPR enquiries uncovered that the vehicle had previously been linked to weapons offences.<\/p>\n

The car was stopped at Junction 17 near Sandbach and two people were found inside – a 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, both from the Birmingham area.<\/p>\n

The vehicle was searched which resulted in several boxes being found. Cheshire Police said they contained a haul of weapons including zombie knives, knuckledusters and other blades. There were more than 40 knives found inside.<\/p>\n

Disturbing pictures shared by the force show the knives laid out, along with a mask. The pair were both arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place and possessing offensive weapons for the purpose of sale.<\/p>\n

The 19-year-old man has since been eliminated from the investigation, and the 18-year-old woman has since been released on conditional bail.<\/p>\n

Chief Inspector Joe McNally, Cheshire Constabulary\u2019s Knife Crime Lead, said: \u201cI\u2019d like to the thank the quick-thinking officers who were on patrol in the area at the time and acted on instinct to pull over the vehicle, leading to this alarming discovery.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Constabulary has recently just completed Operation Sceptre, a weeklong national campaign that tackles knife crime in our areas through proactive policing operations and deployments and community engagement – during this week, our officers recovered over 250 weapons from across Cheshire.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a result of this stop, a further 40 blades, a combination of zombie knives, machetes and a knuckleduster, are now safely in our possession.
