Property agents are banking on high interest for a Grimsby town centre building when it goes under the hammer this month.<\/p>\n

The former Barclays Bank building \u2013 a Grade II Listed property <\/a>\u2013 is up for auction next week, two years after it closed to customers<\/a>. And agents at Sanderson Weatherall say it is ripe for redevelopment, with a guide price of \u00a3275,000.<\/p>\n

The property, at 35 to 39 Victoria Street in Grimsby<\/a>, has around 7,800sqft of space for developers to take on, with images on its brochure showing how the old banking hall, offices and meeting rooms look now. Now the building will form part of an online auction taking place on Thursday, June 11, with bidders needing to place a security deposit of \u00a33,500.<\/p>\n

Marketing materials issued by Sanderson Weatherall say: \u201cThe property comprises a Grade II Listed Building being of three storey construction. The ground floor provides a large banking hall containing many original features, and the upper floors, variously sized office space and staff facilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe premises have an impressive stone frontage to the principal elevation with traditional brick work to the remainder of the building.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe property occupies a prominent corner position on Victoria Street West in Grimsby adjacent to one of the entrances to Freshney Place <\/a>Shopping Centre. Major high street occupiers nearby include Lloyds, McDonalds and M&S.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrimsby town centre is currently undergoing significant regeneration with a new NHS Community Diagnostics Centre and Horizon Youth Zone having both opened recently. Freshney Place is the largest indoor shopping centre in Lincolnshire and is currently being redeveloped to create a new luxury cinema, other leisure units and indoor market hall.<\/p>\n

The Grimsby Barclays branch officially closed its doors for the last time in March 2024<\/a>, with bank bosses citing a decline in footfall. At the time, it emerged that fewer than ten regular customers use the branch exclusively for their banking.<\/p>\n

A Barclays Local has since opened in the town centre at the Town Hall.<\/p>\n

Barclays said at the time: \u201cAs visits to branches continue to fall, with the majority of people preferring to bank online, we need to adapt to provide the best service for all our customers. This is reflected at Grimsby, where we are delivering new ways to support our customers and the community with options for those who need in-person services.\u201d<\/p>\n
