Britain\u2019s largest warship has broken down again and is currently undergoing repairs for a technical issue, the Ministry of Defence<\/a> (MoD) has confirmed.<\/p>\n

The \u00a33.5billion HMS Prince of Wales<\/a>, which has been plagued with problems since entering service, was forced to dock in Norway<\/a>, delaying its departure for the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the US<\/a> Declaration of Independence.<\/p>\n

It is expected to sail in the coming days.<\/p>\n

The mechanical issue on the aircraft carrier<\/a> is understood to involve the propeller shaft, a source told the Daily Mail. They claimed the breakdown has been “devastating for morale” among the crew.<\/p>\n

It comes amid calls for the UK to spend more on defence, as ministers have been warned that global threats are at their highest since the Cold War.<\/p>\n

Sir Richard Knighton, the Chief of the Defence Staff, warned that Russia was \u201craising the stakes and risks crossing a line\u201d, adding that it was the most dangerous period he had known in his 35-year career.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the HMS Prince of Wales<\/a> set sail from Loch Long, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, for Nordic waters to provide security in the Atlantic and High North regions.<\/p>\n

An MoD spokesperson said: \u201cHMS Prince of Wales is currently conducting a port visit to Stavanger as part of the Carrier Strike Group\u2019s deployment across the North Atlantic and Arctic, we expect her to set sail in the coming days.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ship, which is generally based in Portsmouth, was joined by Type 45 destroyer HMS Duncan and tanker RFA (Royal Fleet Auxiliary) Tidespring on its way to Nordic waters.<\/p>\n

It has worked with Nato and the Joint Expeditionary Force throughout the deployment.<\/p>\n

HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Queen Elizabeth are the largest and most powerful vessels ever constructed for the Royal Navy.<\/p>\n

HMS Prince of Wales weighs 65,000 tonnes, and has a top speed in excess of 25 knots per hour and a range of 10,000 nautical miles.<\/p>\n

It can carry up to 72 aircraft, including a maximum of 36 F-35B fighter jets, and has an expected service life of up to 50 years, according to the Royal Navy.<\/p>\n
