The family of a mum-of-five still stuck in hospital in Gran Canaria “just want to get her home to her babies.” Emily Casey, 34, was put into a coma after feeling ill on holiday in the Canary Islands with her husband Jamie Casey and their five children.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, May 13, just three days after the family, from Wirral<\/a>, flew to the island, Emily started struggling to breathe and was rushed straight to a nearby hospital. She’d recently recovered from pneumonia<\/a> so doctors initially suspected she had a blood clot in her lung<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A CT scan was done and the mum was told the pneumonia had returned. Doctors said one of her lungs was “full of fluid,” which would need to be drained.<\/p>\n

Jamie returned to the family’s hotel to look after their five children that night. Throughout the night he phoned and messaged Emily continuously to check she was ok while their children slept, but had no response.<\/p>\n

The next morning Jamie rushed back to the hospital, where he found his wife was in an induced coma on a life support machine. Panicked, Jamie contacted their family back in the UK and Emily’s mum flew to Gran Canaria to help take care of her.<\/p>\n

When their holiday ended on Tuesday, May 19 Jamie flew back to Liverpool with their children to arrange childcare. He flew back to Gran Canaria days later to be at his wife’s bedside.<\/p>\n

Upon his return he was told his wife had sepsis. The family were then told Emily’s progress had “gone backwards” and scans revealed pneumonia had “taken over her lungs again,” with sepsis now in her bloodstream.<\/p>\n

Over three weeks later and Emily is still stuck in hospital in Gran Canaria. Family member Kevin Magee, who initially contacted the ECHO, said she was awake but “in and out of sedation.” He added that the family “need to get her home to her babies,” – Summer, 13, Oscar, 11, Isabelle, seven, Sophia, four and Willow, one.<\/p>\n

They’re “desperately” asking for help to bring Emily home and need to raise \u00a350,000 for a medical flight back to the UK. A GoFundMe was set up for Emily<\/a>. If you would like to help, you can donate online.<\/a><\/p>\n
