A former bank is set to be turned into a bar after plans were approved by council planners.<\/p>\n
Crossgates will get a new night-time venue after permission was granted to convert a vacant NatWest building.<\/p>\n
The bank at the junction of Austhorpe Road and Station Road was shut down last year in a wave of branch closures by the company.<\/p>\n
Leeds City Council approved a planning application for change of use and alterations to the site.<\/p>\n
A planning officer\u2019s report said: \u201cThe proposed external alterations are considered appropriate to the character and appearance of the building and its town centre context.\u201d<\/p>\n
Opening hours of 7.30am-midnight, Monday to Saturday and 8am-11.30pm on Sundays were proposed.<\/p>\n
A report by CRL Architects, on behalf of the applicant, said the serving hours would match the opening times of nearby Locus Bar.<\/p>\n
It said: \u201cThere are no residential buildings to the six properties either side.\u201d<\/p>\n
One letter of objection was received, raising fears over potential noise and anti-social behaviour.<\/p>\n
The council report said: \u201cConcerns are also raised regarding opening hours, light pollution from signage and the perceived lack of community benefit arising from the proposal.\u201d<\/p>\n
Council planning officers decided the concerns had been addressed and the scheme could go ahead.<\/p>\n
