Motorists have been caught in traffic mayhem on the M11 near Stansted Airport<\/a> after two multi-vehicle crashes<\/a>.<\/p>\n Friday traffic is gridlocked on the motorway north of Stansted after today\u2019s back-to-back collisions.<\/p>\n Drivers are being held in both directions between J10 Royston and J9 Newmarket after a serious multi-vehicle crash involving two lorries and a van.<\/p>\n Police crash investigators are carrying out a probe, and the southbound stretch of the road remains closed, with congestion stretching back towards Cambridge.<\/p>\n The carriageway is likely to remain closed for some time, Cambridgeshire Constabulary warned. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tSign up for all of the latest stories\t\t\t<\/p>\n Start your day informed with Metro’s News Updates<\/a> newsletter or get Breaking News<\/a> alerts the moment it happens. <\/p>\n The force said: \u2018Officers are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the M11, near to A505 at Duxford. <\/p>\n \u2018The collision involved an HGV and two other vehicles and took place at just after midday.<\/p>\n \u2018The southbound carriageway is closed, and is likely to be so for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.\u2019<\/p>\n Earlier, two lanes were closed southbound between junction J9 Newmarket and J8 Stansted Airport following another multi-vehicle crash. <\/p>\n The emergency services are on the scene, and vehicle recovery has been arranged. <\/p>\n However, delays are building up, with stationary traffic snarling back for five miles towards Cambridgeshire<\/a>. <\/p>\n This is causing 45-minute delays on approach, National Highways<\/a> warned. <\/p>\n Metro has approached the emergency services for a comment.<\/p>\n Elsewhere, drivers on the M1 also face long delays after a broken-down lorry has blocked the motorway. <\/p>\n The lorry brakes locked on, making it unable to be moved. <\/p>\n The incident happened between J11 near Luton<\/a> and Luton Airport<\/a>, causing 60-minute delays in the area.<\/p>\n Got a story?
