A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two women were struck by a vehicle. Police were told that a vehicle had been driven towards a group of women who were standing on a path in Blyth<\/a>, Northumberland<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It struck two women, aged in their 30s, on Keelmans Terrace, close to the junction with Beaumont Street, before leaving the scene. The incident occurred at around 1.25am on Friday morning.<\/p>\n

One of the women sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. She remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition. The other woman sustained non-serious injuries.<\/p>\n

Later on Friday, a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.<\/p>\n

Northumbria Police<\/a> has launched a full investigation into the incident and is now appealing for any witnesses to come forward. They believe those involved are known to each other.<\/p>\n

Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Barr, of the force’s Major Investigation Team (MIT), said: “This has clearly been a very serious incident which has resulted in two people being injured, with one left in a life-threatening condition.<\/p>\n

“The investigation is at an early stage, but we do believe that those involved are known to each other. One person has been arrested and we are continuing to conduct enquiries in the area and offer reassurance to the public.”<\/p>\n
