British teens aren\u2019t so happy about their prime minister\u2019s social media ban<\/a> \u2014 and one let the world know during a hilarious television broadcast.<\/p>\n

Asked what she would be forced to do on weekends under Prime Minister Keir Starmer\u2019s ban \u2014 set to go into effect in the spring of 2027 \u2014 the English schoolgirl bluntly told the BBC: \u201cStare at a wall.\u201d<\/p>\n

The strict measure, announced by Starmer Monday, will prevent everyone under 16 from accessing a swath of popular social apps, including TikTok, Instagram, SnapChat, Facebook, YouTube and X.<\/p>\n

Speaking from a Tarleton classroom hours after the announcement, the teen offered thoughtful insight on why she didn\u2019t agree with the new legislation.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe seems pretty sure of it, and I\u2019m not sure if I agree with him,\u201d the girl said. \u201cI use most of my social media to contact my parents and family.\u201d<\/p>\n

The girl admitted her weekend screen time was typically around 9 hours, but that she was worried about \u201cnot being able to contact my friends\u201d under the upcoming ban.<\/p>\n

And she wasn\u2019t the only one.<\/p>\n

When the BBC asked a show of hands from anybody in the class who supported the ban, not one raised an arm.<\/p>\n

Instead, the kids sat stone faced with their arms crossed and hands folded.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s pretty fair to say,\u201d the BBC reporter said, \u201cmost are pretty disappointed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even though the youngsters don\u2019t<\/a> agree, many parents are singing a different tune.<\/p>\n

Starmer unveiled the measure after a poll of over 116,000 people came back with 90% approval for some kind of ban.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery parent can see it with their own eyes. Social media is making children unhappy,\u201d Starmer \u2014 himself a father of two teens \u2014 said during a Monday press conference. \u201cI\u2019ve heard first hand from families crying out for change and we will do right by them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ban\u2019s full parameters won\u2019t be announced until July.<\/p>\n

But it is similar to one already already underway in Australia, which bans social media for kids under 16.<\/p>\n

Canada, Brazil and Indonesia also have bans, while France, Spain, Denmark, Thailand and South Korea are working on their own.<\/p>\n

Whether the United States will have something of the kind coming remains to be seen, but the US embassy in London voiced opposition to the ban.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States believes effective child protection does not require sacrificing privacy or innovation,\u201d the embassy said in a statement. \u201cThe best answer to challenges posed by technology is almost always better technology, not broad bans or blunt regulatory instruments.\u201d<\/p>\n

That position followed the same line several leading<\/a> social media companies \u2014 including Facebook and Instagram owner Meta, and YouTube \u2014 took after the ban.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve invested in expert-led, age-appropriate experiences and default protections for teens for over a decade and will continue to do so,\u201d a YouTube spokesperson previously told The Post.<\/p>\n
