Europe\u2019s biggest lender HSBC has sealed a a tech<\/a> tie-up with Google where it aims to use AI to scout priority projects that could bank the firm $100m in \u201cefficiency gains\u201d. <\/p>\n The FTSE 100 giant is planning to roll out Google Cloud across its operations in a deal that the bank says will allow 200 more tasks to be completed by AI.<\/p>\n The bank said the initial roll-out would focus on \u201chyper-personalised\u201d wealth management, stronger financial crime risk management and AI tools to \u201cenhance\u201d client services.<\/p>\n The new tech will also be leveraged to filter through ideas and prioritise the \u201chighest value initiatives\u201d for the firm \u2013 an endeavour HSBC claims will make or save at least $100m.<\/a><\/p>\n City AM revealed in April that Lloyds had entered a deal<\/a> with Google to build AI agents.\u00a0<\/p>\n Britain\u2019s biggest mortgage lender was using the tech giant\u2019s suite of computing services to create a new internal platform for agents that will allow teams across its group to build their own tools and publish them to a central marketplace where other divisions can find and deploy them.<\/p>\n HSBC boss: AI will destroy and create jobs<\/p>\n Georges Elhedery, HSBC\u2019s top boss, has told bankers to openly embrace AI.\u00a0In May he said the bank\u2019s staff must avoid \u201cfighting us<\/a>\u201d as he unveiled AI adoption plans at an investor day.<\/p>\n Staff must not be \u201cdisenfranchised, not anxious, overwhelmed, and resisting the change,\u201d he told those in attendance.<\/p>\n He added: \u201cWe all know \u200bgenerative AI will destroy certain jobs and will create new jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\tRead more<\/p>\n \t\t\t\u2018It will reduce jobs\u2019 \u2013 Jamie Dimon sounds off on AI\u2019s impact on banks<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cBut my initial mission \u200bis: I need 200,000 colleagues with us on this journey \u2013 however many will be \u2060left at the end of the journey isn\u2019t the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n Elhedery, like his banking chief peers<\/a>, has looked to leverage the capabilities of AI in a bid to cut costs across operations.<\/p>\n Bill Winters, the chief executive of Standard Chartered, laid out plans to slash some 8,000 roles last month, but stoked controversy after saying the decision was not about cost-cutting and instead replacing \u201clower-value human capital\u201d.<\/a> Winters later apologised for the comments in a LinkedIn post.<\/a><\/p>\n Banks wield the axe on jobs<\/p>\n
