LONDON, June 20 (Reuters) – A train driver was killed and dozens more injured in a collision between \u200ctwo commuter services about 60 miles (100 km) north \u200cof London on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
East Midlands Railway, which operated both London-bound trains \u200binvolved in the crash, confirmed in a statement on X on Saturday that the driver of one of the services had been killed.<\/p>\n
A video posted on social media by one \u200cof the passengers showed \u2060what appeared to be the front of one train entangled with the back of another, \u2060with the carriages appearing to remain upright on the tracks.<\/p>\n
The East of England Ambulance Service said that in addition to \u200ba person \u200bwho died at the scene, \u200b11 people suffered very \u200cserious injuries, 22 were seriously injured and 56 had minor injuries.<\/p>\n
“My thoughts are with the family of the person who has sadly lost their life, and with those who have been seriously injured,” Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in \u200ca statement.<\/p>\n
The cause of the incident \u200bwas not immediately known, and \u200btransport minister Heidi Alexander \u200bsaid an investigation was underway.<\/p>\n
Peter Knapp, a \u200cdoctor who said on social media \u200bsite Bluesky \u200bhe was on board one of the trains, described a “sudden crash” with one carriage off the rails and \u200bsaid he had \u200csustained minor injuries.<\/p>\n
